These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, following the mission, values, and behaviors of Insight Hospital and Medical Center. Employees are expected to provide high-quality care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and guests. GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Director, Surgical Services, and the Supervisor, Sterile Prep, the Certified Sterile Prep Technician processes all reprocessable materials, including instrument sets, trays, equipment, and specialty items, covering decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization. Assembles surgical case carts and equipment according to departmental policies and procedures. DESCRIPTION: Duties and Responsibilities: DECONTAMINATION: Separates instruments for washing and decontamination, reports missing items and malfunctions. Disassembles, cleans, and decontaminates general, specialty, and loaner instrumentation. Follows manufacturers' recommendations when indicated. Assembles instruments, sets, and peel-pouched items; prepares special items upon request. Communicates effectively within and across departments. Performs biological testing of steam autoclaves and sterilizers. Decontaminates patient care equipment from nursing units. Adheres to universal precautions and uses PPE appropriately. Inspects instruments from decontamination, reports issues for repair or deletion. STERILIZATION:
Loads baskets for ultrasonic cleaners, washer-sterilizers, plasma sterilizers, and cart washers per procedures. Maintains cleanliness and order in work areas. Prepares documentation for autoclaves, plasma sterilizers, and tray sets. TRAY SET/ASSEMBLY:
Assembles instruments and packs according to departmental catalog. Assembles surgical case carts with 90% accuracy. Performs packaging, machinery loading, sterilizing, aerating, and handling functions conscientiously. Performs additional processing duties as assigned. STERILE STORAGE/SUPPLY:
Receives reprocessable materials and maintains inventory according to procedures. Reports malfunctioning equipment immediately. Maintains inventory levels and prepares supply items for Surgical Services. Identifies outdated equipment for reprocessing and reports inventory issues. Maintains confidentiality of all information. Performs other duties as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge: High School Diploma required. Certified Sterile Prep Tech, CBSPD credential required. Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills. Abilities: Initiative and team orientation.
