SUMMARY OF POSITION
Performs repairs and troubleshooting on a diverse range of food processing and facility equipment in a sauce manufacturing environment, including but not limited to Winpak VFFS packaging machines, chillers, kettles, steam systems, waste water treatment systems, case erectors, case sealers, air compressors, water softening systems, coolers, freezers, pallet racks, lighting, PLC systems, Zebra label printers, Markem ribbon printers, Hitachi inkjet printers, pneumatic valves and actuators, double diaphragm pumps, drum pumps, PD pumps, and chemical dispensing systems. Requires strong mechanical troubleshooting skills and adaptability to handle complex machine timing and simultaneous operations, particularly on VFFS systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Diagnoses and resolves mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and hydraulic issues on complex food processing equipment, with a focus on Winpak VFFS packaging machines, ensuring proper machine timing and multi-action coordination.
2. Installs, maintains, and repairs components such as belts, filters, gears, chains, valves, pumps, and gearboxes across a wide range of systems, including chillers, kettles, steam systems, and waste water treatment.
3. Troubleshoots and maintains PLC systems, Zebra label printers, Markem ribbon printers, Hitachi inkjet printers, pneumatic valves, actuators, and various pumps (double diaphragm, drum, PD).
4. Performs preventive maintenance tasks, including lubrication, alignment, and calibration of equipment such as case erectors, case sealers, air compressors, and water softening systems.
5. Welds and fabricates machine components as needed to support repairs and modifications.
6. Documents completed work orders clearly and accurately, articulating repairs and maintenance performed in a professional manner.
7. Works independently to troubleshoot and resolve issues while collaborating effectively with the maintenance team and other departments.
8. Maintains a professional demeanor consistent with the role's responsibility level, comparable to supervisory roles in other departments.
9. Handles installations, including connecting air, water, gas, and chemical systems, and ensures proper alignment and leveling of equipment.
10. Acts as a mentor by training and guiding less experienced maintenance staff when needed.
REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful job performance will be considered. Typical qualifications would be:
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1+ years of related experience and/or training in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing environment; or 4 years' direct experience in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing maintenance environment.
• Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical manuals, work orders, and instructions for a diverse range of equipment, including chillers, kettles, steam systems, and waste water treatment systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Vocational Diploma, Technical Diploma, or Associate's Degree from a technical maintenance or vocational school, a plus.
• 2+ years of experience in mechanical troubleshooting and maintenance of complex food processing equipment, such as Winpak VFFS packaging machines, PLC systems, Zebra label printers, Markem ribbon printers, or Hitachi inkjet printers, in a food manufacturing environment.
• Strong ability to independently diagnose and resolve mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and hydraulic issues while also contributing effectively as a team member in a fast-paced production setting.
• Demonstrated adaptability and eagerness to learn new systems and technologies, particularly for handling complex machine timing and multi-action coordination in equipment like VFFS machines.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate and document completed repairs and maintenance tasks in work orders.
• Professional demeanor and attitude reflecting the responsibility level of the role, comparable to supervisory positions in other departments.
• Familiarity with safety standards and certifications, such as OSHA or food safety compliance (e.g., HACCP), is highly desirable.
• Experience operating forklifts, genie lifts, or scissor lifts, with relevant certifications preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may act as a lead by providing training and guidance to others in the Maintenance department.
