Position Overview: SC Environmental is seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven Project Estimator to join our team in Lansing, Michigan. This role manages projects from initial bid through final billing, including identifying bid opportunities, developing accurate cost estimates, preparing competitive proposals, and overseeing billing functions for demolition and environmental projects. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and a firm grasp of industry standards and financial procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Bid Identification & Opportunity Tracking
Maintain and monitor bid sites, clients, and prospective leads
Identify projects aligned with company goals for executive consideration
Cost Estimation
Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits
Analyze specs and documentation to produce detailed cost estimates
Collaborate with field leadership on methods, subcontracting, and material needs
Create labor, material, and time-based breakdowns, including profit margins
Bid Preparation
Develop and submit competitive bids and proposals
Maintain accurate records of bids, tabulations, and outcomes
Attend bid openings as necessary
Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination
Request and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotes
Negotiate pricing and build a reliable vendor network
Project & Market Analysis
Maintain a historical database of estimates and bid results
Analyze data to refine accuracy and reduce risk
Client & Internal Collaboration
Communicate with clients, engineers, and internal staff to ensure scope alignment
Provide detailed cost data for project execution
Billing & Financial Coordination
Prepare and process accurate invoices for demolition and abatement projects
Maintain client account records and support collections
Track billing and documentation using shared systems
Generate billing reports including AR aging and revenue summaries
Compliance & Administrative Support
Manage notifications for city demolition and abatement projects
Support file management, scheduling, and other admin functions
Continuous Improvement
Stay current on construction trends and methods
Recommend improvements in software and processes for accuracy and efficiency
Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in demolition or construction
Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction operations, remediation, billing, and compliance
Skills: Excellent communication, organization, and time management
Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project); familiarity with billing/project management software
Licenses: Valid Driver’s License
Physical Requirements: Ability to conduct site visits in construction environments
Nice to Haves:
Experience: 2+ years in a leadership role
Certifications: OSHA 10-Hour, Asbestos License, HAZWOPER, and Lead certifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
