Description: The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The RN assesses patient needs and develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. The RN provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient's episode. The Med/Surg RN develops specialized skills in the area of cardiac care including telemetry monitoring. The RN is accountable for patient and family education to assist the patient and family in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization. This includes lifestyle changes to support health and healing. The RN promotes comfort and provides emotional support in a healing environment.
The RN applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care by assessing patient and family needs through active listening and social perceptiveness. The RN analyzes data and information obtained through direct observation, assessment, technology, or healthcare team communication. The RN creates a developmentally and age-appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address the identified health problems. In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team, the RN sets goals and monitors the patient's progress. The RN adjusts the plan based on patient response or change in condition and reprioritizes needs.
