Position Summary:
The Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing all aspects of resident care, compliance, and clinical operations for the assisted living and memory care neighborhoods. This leader ensures high-quality care is delivered in accordance with Colorado regulations, company standards, and best practices in geriatric nursing. The DON provides direct leadership to nursing staff, partners with families and interdisciplinary teams, and plays a vital role in maintaining a culture of compassion, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development, implementation, and oversight of resident care plans in accordance with state regulations and community policies
Supervise, support, and evaluate licensed nurses, QMAPs, and care staff
Ensure regulatory compliance with all Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) rules for assisted living
Conduct regular audits and monitor quality indicators to identify and address concerns
Coordinate care with physicians, hospice, therapy, and outside providers
Serve as the clinical leader during survey preparation and response
Participate in admissions and assessments, including health evaluations and change of condition reviews
Provide education, mentorship, and clinical training to staff (including medication administration and dementia care)
Manage inventory and compliance related to medications and treatments
Participate in on-call rotation and provide clinical coverage support as needed
Foster a resident- and family-centered approach to care delivery
Qualifications:
Current Colorado RN license in good standing
Experience in Leadership in assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, or related setting
Strong knowledge of Colorado assisted living regulations, especially regarding medication administration, dementia care, and RN oversight requirements
Excellent clinical assessment, documentation, and leadership skills
Demonstrated ability to train and support clinical staff
Strong organizational and time management abilities
Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems preferred
Ability to lead by example, manage change, and promote a culture of teamwork and accountability
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with QMAP oversight and survey readiness in assisted living
Dementia care certification or training (e.g., Teepa Snow, CPI, Alzheimer’s Association programs)
Familiarity with Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) practices
