Job Description: Desktop/Endpoint Engineer

Position Title: Desktop/Endpoint Engineer Department: IT Infrastructure and Support Reports To: AVP, IT Engineering & Architecture

Position Summary

The Desktop/Endpoint Engineer is responsible for all aspects of endpoint creation, deployment, and management. This includes evaluating hardware and software, managing endpoint operating systems, configuring endpoint devices, deploying, and maintaining endpoint security, and ensuring overall health and efficiency of the endpoint ecosystem. The role also involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, adhering to ITIL frameworks, and leveraging modern tools and technologies to achieve operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

1. Hardware Selection: - Define specifications and select hardware in collaboration with OEMs and manufacturers (e.g., Client, Lenovo, Microsoft). - Evaluate models, conduct benchmarking, and approve endpoint devices for deployment.

2. Operating Systems: - Oversee endpoint OS lifecycle, including evaluation, provisioning, imaging, deployment, and upgrading. - Manage features and version updates, ensuring compliance and compatibility with enterprise requirements. - Apply patches and manage regular OS maintenance schedules.

3. Software: - Deploy, package, and maintain software applications. - Manage updates, patching, and upgrades to ensure functionality and security.

4. Endpoint Management: - Monitor endpoint health via agent/client management systems. - Develop and manage automation strategies for endpoint configuration and compliance. - Create detailed reporting mechanisms to track endpoint performance and health.

5. Endpoint Security: - Implement security measures, including endpoint encryption, antivirus, and vulnerability patching. - Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance with security policies and frameworks.

6. Documentation and Reporting: - Maintain up-to-date documentation on endpoint configurations, processes, and standards. - Generate compliance, usage, and performance reports to inform IT strategy.

Current Software/Tools: - Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT). - PowerShell Application Deployment Toolkit (PSADT). - VMware Workstation Pro. - Microsoft Hyper-V. - 7-Zip. - WinRAR. - Beyond Compare. - Client Device Manager (HPDM), Client Support Assistant (HPSA), Client Thin Update. - Lansweeper (On-Premise/Cloud). - Lenovo Commercial Vantage. - ManageEngine Endpoint Central (Cloud). - Master Wrapper (part of Master Packager). - Office Deployment Tool. - MiniTool Partition Wizard. - Notepad++. - Sapien PowerShell Studio. - Snagit. - Sophos Central (Cloud). - VBSEdit. - Windows ADK & PE Add-on. - XML Notepad. - BGInfo. - UI++. - Rufus. - Double Driver. - WMIExplorer. - Orca. - PassMark Performance Test. - CMTrace. - Remote Desktop Connection Manager.

Requirements

1. Skillset: - Endpoint devices, operating systems, software, and management systems. - Expertise in endpoint security and Active Directory. - Proficiency in shell scripting and automation (e.g., PowerShell). - Knowledge of IT Asset Management (ITAM) and IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) frameworks. - Database/SQL management and network troubleshooting. - Third-level support capabilities.

2. Education and Experience: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent experience. - 3-5 years of experience in endpoint engineering, desktop management, or related roles.

3. Certifications: - Preferred but not required.

Working Conditions: • Primarily office-based with potential for remote or hybrid work options. • Occasional after-hours support or on-call availability may be required.
