Formosa Plastics is a privately held company headquartered in Livingston, New Jersey. Our core business, producing plastic resins and petrochemicals, takes place at three wholly-owned chemical manufacturing subsidiaries located in Delaware City, Delaware, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Point Comfort, Texas.
I. POSITION OBJECTIVE This position is responsible for coordinating and supporting the operation of Laboratory Services and Quality Assurance. Develop or improve test methods consistent with recognized standards using various types of instrumentations and machines. Required to provide effective service and assistance to internal and external customers through polymer knowledge and analysis solutions to assure and improve product qualities. All while sustaining a safe and healthful working environment that meets environmental, health, safety and company requirements.
II. MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY Process Improvement:
Review and monitor polyolefin process quality and work with operations through trouble-shooting, root cause analysis, and process optimization to improve and assure product quality. Suggest and establish testing methods according to the type of products. Prepare QA/QC schemes and procedures to support the productions of new products.
Lead and Facilitate the Fulfillment of Product Delivery and Commitment:
Assist Application Development Group in their investigation to resolve quality complaints by the use of 8D problem solving, analytical technology and process investigation to determine the root cause and countermeasures. Assist Quality Assurance and Marketing to investigate and resolve any issues with final product quality and reduce the grading pending to prevent shipping delay.
Manage, Analyze, Integrate and Administer Solutions to Improve Efficiency:
Help the flow of daily Polyolefin Quality Control activities, which includes reviewing Quality Control data, railcar data assignments, and lab instrument performance.
Initiate Action and as the Critical Liaison:
Notifications, comments, and action to the corresponding departments including Production and Traffic Department are needed if potential problems are found in production process or in traffic loading area.
THM:
Promote cleanliness and order through the implementation of the Total House Keeping Maintenance program. Emphasize Nothing Touch Ground program and No Visual Pollution program. Maintain the plant in like new condition.
III. QUALIFICATIONS A. TECHNICAL JOB CRITERIA 1. Previous Related Experience Required 0-3 years of experience in polyolefins plant operations or technology, and/or a strong background in polymer chemistry, polymer processing, and analytical troubleshooting/problem-solving.
2. Technical Skills Required to Perform This Job • Must be organized in a manner that allows multiple issues to be handled at the same time Mathematical skills, Personal computer skills and applicable software. • Good interpersonal and communication skills • Good business and technical writing capability. • Self-motivated, curious and eager to learn. • Willingness to take over areas of responsibilities.
3. Education Bachelor of Science degree preferably in Chemical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Polymer/Materials Sciences and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field from a recognized university is required.
4. Other Certification/Training Required • Will require training in Company Policies and Procedures after hire. • Current employees must meet all technical and safety training requirements for current position, as specified in the Master Training Plan. • Must participate in the following subject training and pass required certifications.
