DBA
is responsible for the overall database delivery of the Enterprise Data Warehouse for the Medicaid agency. It is a critical role involving expertise in working with Medicaid data itself, security, supporting and maintaining hardware and software, and ensuring we are achieving optimal performance. For example, the DBA is expected to provide a wide range of expertise including the ability to help a user to fetch data (requiring business knowledge) and the technical ability to support a major Teradata upgrade. This role requires regular onsite presence in Springfield, Illinois to perform backup/restore and support onsite maintenance by Teradata (and its subcontractors). This position will be part of our Data Engineering function and data warehousing and analytics practice. Responsibilities
Maintain OnPrem Teradata hardware/software including patches, replacements, and upgrades with support from Teradata Support data governance, metadata management, and system administration Plan and execute tasks to ensure Teradata system operation, including occasional evening and weekend support for Teradata maintenance Provide direction to developers on Operational, Design, Development, and Implementation projects to ensure best use of the Teradata system (review/approval of database components) Perform database backup and recovery operations using BAR DSA and NetBackup Develop proactive processes for monitoring capacity and performance tuning Provide day-to-day support for EDW user issues (jobs, slowdowns, data consistency, RI constraints, PPIs, configuration) Maintain rules in Teradata Active System Management (TASM) and support workload management Maintain Teradata Workload Manager with proper partitions and workloads based on Service Levels Support DR build/test, annual drill, and quarterly maintenance for database systems and application servers Monitor Teradata system health and Teradata Managed Servers (TMS) and take preventive or corrective actions as needed Manage access rights, role rights, priority scheduling, and reporting using dynamic workload manager, DBQL, usage collections and reporting Coordinate with team and customers to meet business, contractual, security, performance, and reporting needs Support internal or external audit processes and address vulnerabilities or risk proactively Prepare and support IRS and internal audit Coordinate with Teradata for system hardening and Safeguard Computer Security delivery Address issues from SCSEM reports and vulnerability scans Generate and maintain capacity management, space and CPU reports; monitor spool, CPU, I/O, usage and storage for performance and growth Review and resolve Teradata alerts and communicate risks or issues to management and users Report status, roadmap, process improvements, automation, mitigations and controls to management and clients Lead database or data-related meetings and projects delivering quality deliverables with minimal supervision Share knowledge and mentor team members for backups Perform additional duties as assigned, including front-end tool (OpenText BI-Query) and model maintenance and administration Required Qualifications
7+ years as a Teradata DBA on Version 15+ (preferably 17+), with experience leading Teradata major upgrades 5+ years as primary/lead DBA with strong leadership and presentation skills 5+ years of experience writing complex SQL using SQL Assistant/Teradata Studio 3+ years of experience with Teradata 6800/1800 systems or IntelliFlex 3+ years of experience ETLing data using Teradata Utilities (FastLoad, Multiload, FastExport, BTEQ, TPT) in Unix/Linux 3+ years of performance tuning in large databases (>5TB) or data warehouses using advanced SQL, DBQL and Explain plans 3+ years of experience analyzing requirements and developing detailed database specifications, tasks, dependencies, and estimates 3+ years of experience resolving customer-facing database problems Data warehouse or equivalent system experience Excellent verbal/written communication, client-facing, collaboration and mentoring skills; strong work ethic Demonstrated integrity, compassion, inclusion, relationships, innovation and performance Preferred Qualifications
Teradata Vantage Certified Master 5+ years data modeling experience (logical and physical) 5+ years with Erwin or similar data modeling tools 3+ years maintaining OpenText BI-Query models 3+ years addressing customer problems related to a Data Warehouse 3+ years collaborating with end users to understand technical requirements 3+ years working with developers to align solutions with business needs 3+ years defining standards and conducting code reviews Experience with metadata management, data governance, business continuity, and data security Experience in Application Server hardware/software administration (Windows/Linux) Experience in matrix organizations and agile environments (Scrum) Experience with DevOps and GitHub Experience with State Medicaid / Medicare / Healthcare applications Experience in large Design Development and Implementation projects Experience upgrading to Teradata IntelliFlex Knowledge of cloud databases (e.g., Snowflake) and migration from on-prem to cloud Note:
