The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical background and attention to detail to design, implement, and support seamless data exchange between disparate healthcare systems, such as EHRs and imaging systems, using standards like HL7, FHIR, and XML. You will lead complex projects, troubleshoot technical issues, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide mentorship to junior staff.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain HL7 v2.x interfaces, FHIR APIs, CCD/CCDA exchanges, and other interoperability solutions. Build and manage interfaces using common integration engines (e.g., Mirth Connect, Rhapsody, Corepoint, Cloverleaf, InterSystems Ensemble). Participate in client onboarding, technical discovery sessions, and troubleshooting escalations. Implement bi-directional integrations between EHRs (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Veradigm, AthenaOne, NextGen, Allscripts) and third-party applications. Implementation & Testing: Implement integration solutions and conduct thorough testing to ensure functionality, performance, security, and reliability. Collaboration: Work with software developers and product managers to drive the development and adoption of interoperability frameworks including SMART on FHIR, FHIRcast, CDS Hooks, and OAuth 2.0-based authorization. Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Monitor integration processes, identify and resolve issues, and ensure the optimal performance of integrated systems. Documentation: Create detailed documentation of integration processes, workflows, and system configurations for future reference and problem-solving. Technology Awareness: Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices to enhance integration strategies and propose innovative solutions. Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Expertise: Proficiency in HL7 v 2.x, FHIR, Smart on FHIR integration frameworks System Knowledge: Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and a deep understanding of system architecture and data engineering principles. Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze complex requirements, translate business needs into technical solutions, and troubleshoot technical challenges. Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Familiarity with EHR platforms such as Epic, Cerner, Veradigm, AthenaOne, or NextGen. Project Management: Experience managing the lifecycle of integration projects, from design through deployment and maintenance. Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, or a related field. Required Qualifications
5-10 years of integration experience in healthcare IT, ideally within a high-growth or startup environment Experience managing technical EHR integrations and customer implementations Familiarity with cardiology IT systems, Epic, or other leading EMRs strongly preferred Proven track record of managing complex technical timelines with internal and external stakeholders Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
