Overview
The Propagation Specialist assists and works closely with all propagation team members, the Lead Grower, and the Director of Growing Operations in maintaining and developing a productive stock plant program and carrying out all other propagation tasks to provide high-quality plants for production. Maintaining a safe environment, having a positive attitude, working as a team, and adapting to change are essential for this role. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Manage and oversee stock plant program through: Maintaining healthy and sufficient quantities of stock plants, refreshing as needed Tracking and maintaining stock inventory Assisting with planning and program development for stock materials Monitoring and preparing stock plants for stock materials through multiple avenues including, but not limited to, trimming, pesticide applications, watering, and PGR applications Meeting weekly targets for sticking through careful planning and deadlines Oversee plant health of all crops in the propagation house Ensure proper irrigation and humidity levels throughout all plant stages through hand watering and mist system management Regularly monitor crops for diseases and pests Make chemical applications of pesticides and plant growth regulators to ensure optimal crop health and success Manage plant fertility at injection points Propagation tasks Receive and prepare cuttings Assist team with sticking Coordinate with seeder on seed tasks Enter propagation data into system on a regular basis Contribute to propagation protocols database and work to continuously improve propagation success Assist team with general plant care including trimming, weeding, cleaning, and dumping Coordination and Planning Assist in the coordination of weekly stick and seed lists Assist in the coordination of space in Prop 1, 2, & 3 for cuttings, seedings, and plugs Coordinate with Plug manager on preparation for planting Maintain cleanliness and organization in all areas Work to continuously improve workflow, productivity, efficiency, and plant health Assist with any task that will increase Perennial Favorites performance Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in other departments as determined by Perennial Favorites needs including production, shipping, field work, etc. Continued education with trade shows, classes, trial gardens, etc. Collaborate with owners/managers on expansion and direction of business Comply with all Perennial Favorites policies and procedures Follow all safety policies and procedures to support a safe working environment, including safe operation of machines and equipment Oversee, monitor and direct coordination of company issued equipment, to include communication devices, laptops and tools Help with PF equipment repair and maintenance Any and all other tasks that management deems necessary Physical Demands
Frequent lifting from 5-30 lbs, unassisted Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling Sustained periods of heat, cold, bright conditions, and humidity Requirements
Obtain and/or maintain a Private Pesticide Applicator license through Utah Dept. of Ag General knowledge and understanding of plant varieties and culture requirements Preferred Qualifications
3+ years of working experience in plant propagation and/or nursery industry 2+ years of education in horticulture or related field Hourly Rate:
Based on experience and qualifications $22.00 to $25.00 an hour 100% of dental and vision premiums (employee and family) 50% of health premium (employee only) IRA contribution match up to 3% Short- and Long-Term Disability Insurance, plus Life Insurance Paid Time Off: 40 hours PTO after 12 weeks; 80 hours PTO after 1 year Paid holiday week from Christmas to New Year All major holidays off and paid (Memorial Day work will be required but can be used a floater after busy season) Why Join Us
