Within policy guidelines established by the Board of Directors, the terms of the Purchase of Service Agreement, and licensing requirements, the Director is responsible for overall administration and supervision of the total program of day care services to families and children. These responsibilities shall include coordination and supervision of all program components, such as intellectual growth of young children, preventative health and social services, nutrition, staff development, community outreach, parent involvement in program operation, fiscal management and accountability, office and facilities management. In order to effectively carry out these overall responsibilities, the Director shall consider, confer and consult with other supervisory staff members of the center in arriving at decisions affecting areas in which these persons may be specialists. General Summary

A) Maintaining Good Standards: Developing and maintaining quality standards of education and nurture of the children throughout the total day of the centers operation. Child and the group. for program planning and referrals, as needed. Responsibilities

Maintaining Sound Financial Management: Purchasing items for which budgeted funds are available and informing the Board of additional needs not covered by the budget. Supervising the bookkeeper in maintaining a system of financial recording, accounting, statistical reporting and provision of filing and safeguarding of records. Holding regular conferences with the bookkeeper to become apprised of the status of these records and financial needs. Be the liaison between the day care center and the local corps In addition, it is recommended that the Director have the following personal qualifications: Demonstrated leadership qualities (mature judgment) and ability to work cooperatively with all people. Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships and a sound educational program; to be articulate, pleasant and resourceful Willingness to utilize any training available to improve administrative and supervisory skills as well as understanding of fiscal and budgetary management. Qualifications

MS or MA and a valid New York State Teachers Certification

N-6 or Birth -2

(or equivalent certificate from another state, which is recognized by the New York State Department of Education). Two years group teachers experience plus academic course work pertinent to the appropriate age levels. Maintaining a program that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual and social needs of the individual Coordinating the work schedules of individual staff with planned group activities. Responsibility for seeing that staff records behavior and progress of each child and utilizing these with staff Supervision of Staff Helping staff to understand the framework of the community in which they work and the day cares role in fulfilling the mission of The Salvation Army. Responsible for the professional growth and development of staff through regularly scheduled Helping staff find practical application for theoretical knowledge. Maintaining professional relationships in dealing with staff. Assisting in creating a mechanism for regular communication between board and PAC. Interpreting policies and programs of board pertinent to parents relationship with the day care Maintaining, and helping staff maintain, good continuing relationships with parents, through Planning group meetings with parents and staff. a) Keeping expenditures with budgetary limitations. c) Maintaining current fee collections. (e) Being available to accountants at the time audits are scheduled.
