Overview
Under general supervision of the GIS Coordinator, this position provides analytical services to the Information Technology Department using the Geographic Information System (GIS). Job duties include analyzing and digitizing spatial and tabular data to produce maps and related products; writing computer scripts; creating database queries; ensuring data integrity by performing continuous maintenance activities to enhance and update the Enterprise GIS; developing, maintaining. Responsibilities Maintain the Enterprise GIS by inputting and correcting data, researching data conversions, establishing data specifications, updating resources (maps, databases, and scanned images), and ensuring data accuracy. Integrate and perform analyses on spatial and tabular data from a variety of sources and other applications, create database queries, and develop reports utilizing a variety of data sources. Optimize tabular and database data for fastest performance using metrics and database tuning. Develop, design and edit custom templates, scripts, and macros to meet project parameters or customer needs; and develop automation or customized routines to enhance GIS applications and increase inter-departmental productivity. Build and enhance web pages to effectively communicate the Citys GIS resources to others. Research and implement new GIS technology, software, and practices. Facilitate the development and implementation of protocols for the GIS/GPS systems. Provide guidance to and train other GIS staff in various departments. Act as a technical resource in assisting internal and public GIS customers with technical issues. Fulfill internal and external requests for GIS information to include developing graphic presentations, charts, graphs, and maps. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Spatial Science or related technical field and two (2) years or more years related experience using Geographic Information Systems. Knowledge and experience with MS Windows, Windows-based applications, ESRI ArcGIS, Trimble GPS, HTML, CSS, and SQL database language. Knowledge and experience with Website administration and content management. Knowledge of fundamental GIS/GPS principles and practices. Experience updating and maintaining web pages. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent customer service skills. Possess and maintain a valid Texas Drivers License. Ability to attain ITIL Foundations Certification within 12 months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Five (5) years of GIS work experience. Two (2) years of Website Administration experience. Masters degree in GIS or GIS related field.

Drug Screening:
Due to the safety and/or security sensitive nature of this position, individuals shall be subject to pre-employment or pre-placement drug and/or controlled substance testing as outlined in City policy. Additional Criminal Background Screening Required:
In addition to the standard pre-employment criminal background check, individuals receiving a conditional offer for this position shall be subject to a finger-print based background screening due to the required access to secured buildings and/or secure data systems.
