The Operations Research (OR) group within the Refining organization enhances and supports the planning, optimization, simulation, scheduling, and blending software applications used by the value chain optimization, commercial, refining, and other organizations within the company not only to run and optimize the day-to-day business but also to develop the company's long-term asset investment strategy. This successful candidate is responsible for designing, building, and supporting models that are used to optimize regional supply transportation logistics for various organizations/commodities. This may include Lt Products, Crude, Asphalt, Propylene, or other commodities for short and/or long-term optimization utilizing Aspen Petroleum Supply Chain Planner (PSCP)/Distribution Planning Optimization (DPO), AIMMS, and other tools. The technology landscape for these models is changing, so it will be important to keep up with evolving technology and experiment with novel approaches. Opportunities will exist for consulting with multiple business units within MPC to aid in the development of solutions to drive profitability. Internal candidates can be located in Findlay, San Antonio, Houston or any refinery location. External candidates will be located in Findlay, San Antonio, or Houston offices only. Relocation is approved. Travel for this position is less than 10%. This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate's experience and qualifications. Typical grade range is 12-13. Key Responsibilities

Identify value-add optimization opportunities and work with the business to translate real world transportation and logistics challenges into mathematical models. Develop new optimization models to fit emerging business cases. Upgrade existing models to more modern technology. Assist with integration between optimization models and other internal systems. Support, enhance, and maintain AspenTech Petroleum Supply Chain Planner (PSCP/DPO), AIMMS or other models, both single as well as multi-period. Models may be commodity and/or regionally based. Provide troubleshooting support/assistance, informal training and mentoring to users. Work with planning teams to identify, prioritize, implement and test model improvements that result from operational changes, capital projects, regulatory or other impacts. Provide feedback to the vendor on the application. Interface with the vendor, when needed, on support, bug or enhancement items. May support Discrete Event Simulation software. May develop ML/AI models where adjacencies exist. Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree or higher in Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Supply/Logistics Optimization, Chemical Engineering or a related degree is required. Five plus years of logistics optimization experience and/or petroleum refining is required. Proficiency with Excel is required. Higher consideration will be given to candidates with experience developing models in Python. Higher consideration will be given to candidates with AIMMS experience. Higher consideration will be given to candidates with Aspen Petroleum Supply Chain Planner (PSCP) aka Distribution Planning Optimization (DPO) Higher consideration will be given to candidates with experience implementing, maintaining, debugging and testing complex models.
