Salary : $15 per hour Description :
The College of Public Service is looking for student workers to place at off-campus organizations for the fall/spring semesters. There are two types of positions that students may fill as participants in the Community Work-Study and Internship program:
• Student Teachers and/or Reading/Writing & Technology Tutors • Community Engagement Intern
DUTIES:
The specific duties for each internship will vary by site.
Generally, student teachers and tutors will work in educational settings (schools or a non-profit) to help K-12 school students better comprehend math, science, or reading. This may also include teaching literacy and technology skills to families, preparing them for the job market and supporting Houston's economic growth, which is linked to increasing community literacy.
Community engagement interns will hold internship positions within a local non-profit in an area related to their academic major or specific interests, as well as support various initiatives/events promoted by the university.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Excellent oral and written communication skills • Strong interest in community issues, engagement, and social justice • Strong computer skills • Ability to work cooperatively and in a leadership role • Organizational skills
Qualifications :
• Must be a current UHD student • Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours • Must have a work-study award from the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid
All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check.
