Facilities Technician
The Facilities Technician is responsible for assisting in the day to day operations and maintenance of all facility systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and including but not limited to medical specific systems such as nurse call and medical gases. The Facilities Technician shall at all times support the philosophy and mission of OSS Health. Qualifications and Education: Education: High School graduate or GED required. Qualifications: Experience in the following trades is helpful: Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC Systems and Emergency Generator Operation. Must have proficient computer skills Must have the ability to function with minimal supervision. Must have valid Pennsylvania driver's license. Must have the ability to do the job safely, as evidenced by proper body mechanics, and without injury to self or others. Willingness to learn hospital/departmental emergency procedures for fire, safety, disaster, electrical safety, infection control, MSDS and hazardous/toxic materials. Must have professional and effective communication skills, and be able to promote effective communication at all levels. Must have excellent time management skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for meeting required standards established around the organization's commitment to promote customer satisfaction, economics, productivity, innovation, people growth, and organizational climate. Performs minor electrical maintenance to include but not limited to light fixtures, lamps and ballasts, switches and outlets, minor appliances, cords, fuses, using hand, power and specialty tools. Performs minor plumbing maintenance to include but not limited to leaks in drains or faucets, unclogging drains, rebuilding defective faucets, hand valves, and flush valves. Performs minor painting, patching and carpentry work. Assists with the assessment and repairs on building systems including HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing. Performs daily and monthly preventative maintenance and maintains an accurate log book on all tasks performed on a daily basis. Responds to Building Automation and Life Safety alarms. Assists with inspections for safety, security and fire hazards. Maintains department equipment and tools in a professional and safe manner. Maintains confidentiality of all security and facility information. Responsible for ensuring departmental policies and guidelines are followed. Coordinates repairs with other staff, agencies and contractors to assure compliance with local codes, guidelines, and informs supervisor of any problems. Assists with grounds maintenance, parking lot and sidewalk maintenance, and campus beautification as needed. Participates in department on-call rotation. Performs other department related duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: No direct reports. Language Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with staff, peers, physicians and the public. Ability to speak and understand English fluently. Physical Demands: Frequently required to walk distances. May require climbing and working from ladders. May require bending and stooping. Frequently lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting up to 75 pounds. Fine and gross motor skills and manual dexterity to operate keyboard and other equipment. Possible standing for long periods of time, operating machinery and driving an OSS vehicle. Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to an emergency. Work Environment: Exposed to blood borne pathogens, anesthetic gases, sterilizers, electrical and mechanical hazards, confused or combative patients, bio-contaminated waste, and unpleasant elements. Subject to stressful situations, long or irregular hours. Work is both indoors and outdoors and will have exposure to various weather conditions, possibly extreme.
