Responsibilities
Calculate various pension applications, estimates and re-calculations Process inquiries for pension applications, pension estimates, and return to work Verify, establish and re-establish pension member eligibility for new or existing members, spouses and dependents using the system of choice (Imaging System, V3) Maintain updated records and files on all pension claims, applications, estimates and re-calculations Generate correspondence to pensioners, participants, surviving spouses, beneficiaries and employers Provide benefit eligibility requirements for Pension to prospective pensioners and beneficiaries Communicate with members and advocates via telephone or written correspondence regarding pension eligibility Request required proof of wages or hours worked as necessary; forward documentation to the Eligibility Department to update member eligibility records Research status of benefit checks Communicate and explain Pension and Retiree Health Benefits Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by management Must meet performance standards including attendance and punctuality Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required Minimum two (2) years demonstrated work experience conducting numerical calculations and analysis or Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Accounting, Finance, Statistics; or two (2) years’ work experience answering Pension Plan benefit inquiries required Working knowledge of retirement and pension benefits, regulations, and procedures a plus (1199SEIU Health Care Employees Pension Fund, Greater New York Pension Fund, Homecare Employees Pension Fund) Knowledge of web-based applications, health systems, good navigation skills (Vitech, Imaging System) Excellent analytical and mathematical skills; basic knowledge of Microsoft Word required, and Outlook & Excel preferred Good keyboarding skills (minimum 6,000 kph and 6% or less error rate) required Good communication skills both verbal and written; able to communicate in a clear and concise manner and initiate own correspondence Ability to work well under pressure Able to multi-task, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and follow through on assignments Detail oriented and able to work independently a must Good customer service skills and ability to maintain a pleasant attitude; provide professional and courteous service to members
