Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Cloud Software Engineer to join our dynamic Compute Team. This role involves contributing to a massively parallel enterprise platform that leverages Java and a robust suite of Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS), including Kubernetes, Hadoop, and Accumulo. The platform is purpose-built to support and execute data-intensive analytics across a managed, scalable infrastructure. This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated, detail-oriented Java developer who thrives in collaborative and evolving technical environments. As part of our team, you'll work on cutting-edge cloud technologies, develop mission-critical capabilities, and engage with a range of systems based on real-world customer needs. Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and deploy Java-based applications and services that run in a distributed cloud environment. Contribute to the architecture and implementation of scalable, high-throughput systems used for large-scale data processing.

Integrate open-source components such as Kubernetes, Hadoop, and Accumulo into mission-critical software solutions.

Collaborate closely with team members to understand system requirements, troubleshoot issues, and deliver reliable functionality.

Continuously evaluate new technologies and incorporate them to improve performance, security, and scalability.

Maintain documentation and support system deployments in a DevSecOps-driven environment.

Respond to evolving customer needs by adapting development priorities and technologies as required.

Qualifications

Minimum QualificationsExperience

At least eight (8) years of experience in software development/engineering, including: Requirements analysis

Software development

Installation and integration

Evaluation and enhancement

Maintenance and testing

Problem diagnosis and resolution

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field A Master's degree in a technical field may substitute for two (2) years of experience

A PHD in a techincal field may substitute for three (3) years of experience

Acceptable technical fields include: Mathematics

Information Systems

Engineering

Other related disciplines

Must possess an active TS/SCI security clearance with a current polygraph.

Required Technical Skills

Programming Languages & Technologies: Proficiency in Java

Experience with MapReduce programming models and tools such as: Hadoop, Hive, Pig

Database Technologies: Experience with relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL

Infrastructure & Scripting: Knowledge of Linux OS development

Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes

Scripting/automation experience using Python and Ansible

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with microservices architecture and container orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes)

Relevant Certifications (at least one of the following): AWS Certified Developer - Associate

AWS DevOps Engineer - Professional

Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)

Elastic Certified Engineer

Target Salary Range

$176,000 - $282,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
