Patient Care Technician BH Fellow - Psychiatric Emergency Services

UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital is hiring a casual Patient Care Technician to support their Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) department!
The shifts for this position will rotate and include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends.
Assist with procedures, daily living activities, physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. Provide feedback to RNs and report changes in patient status.
Perform blood glucose tests, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care, and at least four additional tasks (e.g., phlebotomy, EKG, dressing, catheter removal).
Report equipment malfunctions, communicate effectively with other departments, and maintain professional relationships.
Respond to call lights, telephones, pass meal trays, and transport patients.
Receive feedback, identify learning needs, improve skills, and participate in self-review.
Instruct patients and families under RN direction, apply and monitor restraints as needed.
Communicate clearly with the healthcare team, understand cultural diversity, support workplace safety, and maintain productive relationships.
Follow all patient care and hospital policies, comply with safety procedures.
Document in medical records, perform clerical functions, and complete work timely.
Achieve competency in advanced skills like phlebotomy, IV removal, EKG, and NG tube management.
High school diploma or equivalent.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC), CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
