The Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics, and Public Policy seeks a full-time Senior Data and Network Scientist to support two multi-year, interdisciplinary research projects, with a focus on social media audiences, journalism, and content creators. The Data and Network Scientist will contribute to the design, implementation, and analysis of large-scale datasets drawn from social media and digital platforms. Job-Specific Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for acquiring and managing data using public and private APIs; building and maintaining research databases; conducting network science analyses; and working with a multidisciplinary research team to develop and refine quantitative research questions. The position requires close coordination with journalists, technologists, and social scientists. The role includes participation in regular research meetings, interfacing with academic and civil society partners, and contribution to joint publications. Qualifications
Basic Qualifications: At least 5 years of related experience and a Master's degree in computer science, data science, information science, or a related field. Demonstrated experience with social media data analysis, including the development of classifiers. Proficiency in Python and R, along with basic programming and database management skills. Additional Qualifications and Skills: Experience with social media platforms, networked communication environments, and data journalism strongly desired. Ability to work independently and in team settings across disciplinary boundaries. Experience managing complex datasets and working in collaborative research environments. Interest and aptitude for data visualization. Ability to write clearly and concisely about data findings and methodologies. Additional Information
