Mechanic/Maintenance Technician

The Mechanic/Maintenance Technician at the University of Idaho Golf Course works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendents to ensure that the golf course delivers quality and courteous service to our guests. The golf course serves as an important learning laboratory for university students and as a touchpoint to the community and region. This position maintains all equipment for the University of Idaho Golf Course. Duties may include: Maintain and repair landscaping tools and equipment Operate a variety of tools and equipment Troubleshoot, repair and maintain 2-stroke and 4-stroke small engines and equipment such as push mowers, blowers and string trimmers Welding, machining, repairing, fabricating and painting of equipment and facilities Troubleshoot and repair pumps, valves, pipes, and leaks in irrigation system Other duties as assigned Required Experience: Two years maintaining and repairing vehicles and equipment including: Automotive and small engine diagnostics and repair Mechanical systems Use of hand and power diagnostic tools Troubleshooting and overhauling Working in a team environment Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent Required Other: Must be at least 18 years of age Possess a valid drivers license and meet University vehicle policy requirements Work a nonstandard schedule as needed Membership in the Inland Empire Golf Course Superintendents Association (IEGCSA) and Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) or ability to obtain memberships within six months of hire Additional Preferred: Military, trade school, or college degree Diesel mechanic training (includes hydraulic, electrical, onboard electronics, mechanical) Turf management training Irrigation systems training Training related to reel grinding, Toro, and/or John Deere golf/turf equipment Experience operating and/or servicing heavy equipment Experience maintaining a wide range of turf/golf/landscape equipment Previous experience working at a golf course or within the green industry, preferably in a mechanic or equipment manager role CTEM certification or work towards CTEM certification through the GCSAA ASE Certification(s) Mechanical knowledge and experience troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining small engines (2-cycle and 4-cycle) Ability to work independently and as part of a team Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail CPR/AED/First Aid Certification(s) Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: Must be able to: Bend, stoop and work in awkward positions for several hours at a time Stand and walk continuously throughout the workday Climb and work from ladders Carry, lift or otherwise move items weighing up to 80 pounds occasionally Work in inclement weather conditions Work on uneven and slick surfaces Work in confined spaces using equipment and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Degree Requirement: N/A: No degree requirement FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Employee Category: Classified Pay Range: $27 per hour or higher depending on experience Type of Appointment: Full Time FTE: 1 Funding: This position is contingent upon the continuation of work and/or funding.
