25-26 Multilingual Learning Specialist - Paterson Prep
Under the supervision of the Director of Student Services, the Multilingual Learner Specialist (MLL Specialist) provides legally mandated services to identified Multilingual Language Learners, as MLL as students who are identified as needing at-risk interventions. The MLL Specialist pulls out small groups of students and works collaboratively with the general education teachers in classrooms. The MLL Specialist works with the school administrators to implement school procedures and policies and communicates with students' parents, guardians, and/or caregivers. The MLL Specialist holds primary responsibility for designing and implementing direct MLL instruction and collaborating with teachers to provide English language support in other content areas. Demonstrate knowledge of grade-level content curricula to engage students in all content areas and differentiate curriculum and instruction to support all LLs Plan, prepare, and facilitate daily standards-based lessons that utilize a variety of MLL instructional strategies that differentiate teaching based on the diverse and individual needs of all students Manage both regulatory and instructional requirements as an MLL Specialist Administer Home Language Questionnaires and administer ACCESS and Alternate ACCESS for MLLs to determine student eligibility for MLL services Use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices to create a classroom culture of data-driven decision-making to close the achievement gap for all students, including general education, students with disabilities, and MLLs Evaluate, determine goals for, and track the progress of individual Multilingual language learners, and communicate with faculty, students, and families Maintain MLL records Advise teachers on modifying/accommodating curriculum for MLL students and share best practices to ensure high-quality instruction Holistic Development of Scholars: Foster an inviting, growth-oriented classroom environment for Academic and Character formation, supporting holistic student growth Curriculum and Instruction: Implement a classically-inspired, inquiry-based, rigorous curriculum aligned with national and state standards, inspiring curiosity, depth of insight, and lifelong learning readiness. Implement innovative teaching strategies that resonate with diverse learners Promotion of Critical Thinking: Cultivate higher-order thinking skills in students, enhancing their abilities to analyze, create, synthesize, and evaluate Data-Driven Instruction: Utilize assessment data to strengthen student achievement through targeted interventions and personalized instruction Collaborative Engagement & Continuous Improvement: Foster productive relationships with colleagues, parents, and the community while engaging in ongoing collaborative professional development, reflecting on student achievement, and efficiently managing time for impactful teaching and learning Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications & Certifications Knowledge of second language acquisition theories and best practices for teaching ML students Proven ability in curriculum development and instructional strategies for multilingual learners Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, families, and staff. A demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1-2 years experience preferred) Academic expertise in core content areas Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited institution Excellent spoken and written communication skills Possession of current New Jersey ESL certification (required) Relevant urban, elementary teaching experience with demonstrated student results (preferred) Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred) Compensation & Benefits The base pay range for this position starts at $69,000 per year. Pay may vary, depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, we provide access to the NJ pension system and a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
