Job Description
The Phlebotomist I is responsible for performing a variety of blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. The role requires the collection and storage of specimens according to established procedures, with a commitment to maintaining the integrity of each specimen for accurate test results.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
Centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.
Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients in a clear and courteous manner.
Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Understand and execute all physicians' orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Ensure 100% accuracy by checking test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperature.
Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department trainings.
Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.
Essential Skills
3+ years of recent phlebotomy experience.
High School Diploma or GED.
Experience with venipuncture and blood draw techniques.
Customer service experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with processing specimens and handling patient inquiries.
Ability to perform 15+ patient draws per day.
Experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
Work Environment
The position is based at a lab with a team of three other phlebotomists. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with a lunch break from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. The role involves handling around 70-75 patients per day, including performing drug screens. Candidates will be trained to use both straight and butterfly needles, performing approximately 20-25 sticks per day.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.00/hr.
