Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience in providing behavioral health or developmentally disabled services, or psychiatric patient care; OR
Eighteen semester hours of college coursework in a social sciences field, education, social work, child guidance, or nursing; OR
Two years and six months of experience in providing behavioral health or developmentally disabled services or psychiatric patient care plus a Behavioral Health Aide Diploma from a vocational technical college with an approved curriculum from the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Supervises lower-level paraprofessional healthcare staff providing therapeutic and environmental care of patients on a ward during an assigned shift.
Gives a report at the change of shift.
Assigns and performs routine nursing duties, such as taking vital signs, assisting with treatments, and performing diabetic urine tests.
Assigns duties and maintains a safe and sanitary environment for patients; assists in cleaning physical surroundings, furnishings, and equipment in the patient care area.
Documents on the patient's chart pertinent behavior, or incidents (accidents or injuries) or any complaints made by patients, and reports such to the supervisor.
Assists in patient management utilizing therapeutic intervention techniques; restrains hostile and physically violent patients when necessary.
Makes rounds to check patients' presence and checks for compliance with safety, sanitation, and therapeutic environment.
Position-Specific Details:
Location: the Nursing Department of the LA Veterans Home in Jackson, Louisiana.
Appointment Type: Full-Time Position Probational
Work Schedule: Work hours are 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM / 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM, with alternate weekends.
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience. (CNA 1 Special Entrance Rate) $16.24 (base pay), plus shift differentials and premium pay of $3.00 per hour worked.
