About the Role:

This position will focus primarily on the incorporation of sustainability into the capital improvement projects of King County's Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD). It will lead sustainable materials and construction and demolition (C&D) materials management for WTD and support various other sustainability initiatives, including solar installations, Green Operations and Maintenance efforts, and securing sustainable grant and funding opportunities. This role will also coordinate across WTD's capital portfolio to assist capital projects pursing third - party building certifications. Along with green building technical expertise and capital project management skills, the successful candidate will have a strong commitment and passion for sustainable design and mitigating the impacts climate change. Candidates will be self-motivated and detail oriented. They will have a strong ability to communicate complicated subject matter and work effectively on a variety of capital project and program teams.

About the Team:

This position will be supervised by the Climate, Energy and Sustainability Supervisor. The Climate, Energy and Sustainability work group is part of the Resource Recovery Unit in WTD's Operations and Maintenance Section. The Resource Recovery Unit strives to bring valuable resources, technology, and sound business practices together to deliver products and programs that inspire our customers to be part of an environmentally sustainable future-today. It is responsible for ensuring safe, environmentally friendly products are made from an urban renewable waste stream including Loop® biosolids soil amendment, recycled water, and renewable energy, as well as managing programs including sustainability, energy, technology assessment, and nutrient management.

The Climate, Energy and Sustainability work group includes the Sustainability Program. This team is focused on development and implementation of King County sustainability policies, including the King County Strategic Climate Action Plan (SCAP) and Green Building Ordinance (GBO). Work performed by the team includes efforts to increase green building, use of low-embodied carbon construction materials, green O&M efforts, and construction and demolition waste diversion in WTD operations and capital projects.

Job Duties

What You Will Be Doing: Serve as a green building and sustainable design subject matter expert to WTD's capital program and projects , along with other sustainability initiatives such as solar installations and green O&M.

Educat e capital project and operations staff on sustainable materials and construction and demolition material management and support the implementation of these efforts on WTD capital projects .

Coordinate across and provide technical assistance for capital projects pursuing third - party green building project certifications , including LEED, Envision, Living Building Challenge , and Salmon-Safe.

Develop resources , tools, and communications for WTD staff that advance sustainability efforts within the agency.

Manage sustainability funding and grants opportunities for WTD projects and programs, as well as track compliance and submit reports for awarded grants.

Support WTD's Sustainability Program and other duties as assigned.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Qualifications You Bring:

Bachelor's degree in sustainability, environmental studies, engineering, architecture, or another related course of study or a combination of work experience and education in one of these fields which provide s the skills and knowledge required for the job. Knowledge of, and work experience with sustainability concepts such as sustainable infrastructure, construction and demolition material management, sustainable materials, third-party sustainability scorecards, greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions reduction, climate mitigation, equity, social justice, and community engagement. Familiarity with the King County Strategic Climate Action Plan (SCAP) and Green Building Ordinance (GBO), and /or experience with the practical application and tracking compliance/reporting of sustainability policy. Demonstrated ability to research and develop program guidance , procedures, correspondence, and technical reports. Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate highly technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Competencies You Bring:

Working Conditions:

Remote and Onsite Work Details: Employees in this role work remotely from a home location, with occasional onsite reporting requirements (3-4 days per month for team collaboration and field visits). The frequency of onsite work is determined by business needs and may be adjusted accordingly. Onsite reporting locations may be at various King County worksites throughout the WTD service area including the collaboration space at King Street Center (201 S. Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98104) and treatment plant facilities. Requirement:

Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements. Work Schedule:

This full-time position works a 40-hour work week, Monday-Friday. This position is not covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible Union Representation:
