SUMMARY //
The Gym Staff performs the majority of daily gym duties including front desk operations, membership management, customer service, merchandise sales, and cleaning. This role monitors the climbing floor to ensure adherence to safety standards and facility rules. Gym Staff also participate in events and promotions, maintain a clean and organized environment, and serve as a key point of contact for guests and members. Strong customer service skills, a passion for climbing, and flexibility in scheduling are essential for this role.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES //
Welcome and check in guests and members, enforce waivers and entrance policies, and give facility tours highlighting offerings and amenities.
Manage memberships by signing up new members, collecting paperwork, updating info, and ensuring adherence to procedures.
Answer calls, provide quotes, respond to climbing-related inquiries, and promote events, memberships, and merchandise.
Process transactions including sales, exchanges, returns, and provide assistance during events like competitions or vendor markets.
Perform daily and deep-cleaning tasks, including laundry, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and general facility upkeep.
Conduct scheduled facility walk-throughs, using a tablet to report issues or concerns, and communicate risks to management.
Deliver basic climbing instruction and serve as a floor touchpoint for guests, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Monitor climbing areas to ensure proper certification tags, adherence to rules, and safe climbing and belay techniques.
Address unsafe behaviors (e.g., kids in fall zones, gear on mats) and conduct belay tests and autobelay orientations.
Perform other duties as assigned, remaining proactive, engaged, and solution-oriented during shifts.
REQUIREMENTS //
A minimum of five years of professional experience, which may include a combination of workforce experience, higher education (college/university), or trade school training.
Friendly, approachable, and service-oriented with strong verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
Experience in customer service, sales, and hospitality; Rock Gym Pro and climbing gym experience a plus.
Passion for climbing and an ability to learn and care for related merchandise.
Ability to work nights, weekends, and varying shifts with flexibility and adaptability.
Self-motivated, proactive, and able to maintain productivity during downtime.
Skilled in conflict resolution, member service, and working both independently and as a team.
First Aid/CPR and Utah Alcohol Certification required upon hire.
Proficient in MS Office, including Excel and Outlook.
Strong preference for applicants with hospitality or hotel industry experience or completion of hospitality training.
Ability to work cross functionally to enhance the customer experience, recognizing that customer satisfaction is a company-wide effort.
Proven ability to prioritize customer needs while decision-making and problem-solving to ensure a positive experience.
Ensure a high level of customer care by maintaining a friendly, compassionate, and professional demeanor.

WORK ENVIRONMENT //
This role involves working in an active climbing gym environment with exposure to airborne chalk, dust, and cleaning products. There is occasional risk from falling objects or tripping hazards such as ropes or gear. Staff must be alert and safety-conscious when performing floor monitoring or instruction duties.
