Job Summary: The Behavior Specialist works with students who exhibit specific behaviors which impede academic, social or emotional growth. The Specialist also provides consultation to school personnel and parents regarding classroom and home behavior management techniques.

Qualifications: Primary Qualifications: School Social Work Licensure/Temporary or Full School Approval for School Social Worker or Certified Special Education Teacher Experience with students with exposure to prolonged chronic stress required Experience in a center based program preferred Experience working with students with Emotional Impairments preferred PBIS, CPI and Crisis Intervention training and experience preferred Experience in working within the MTSS framework Experience in conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments, writing Positive Behavior Intervention Plans, and Emergency Intervention Plans Team work, team building, and mediation skills and ability to work independently Other Qualifications and Attributes: Provide in-classroom behavioral support, coaching, training and strategies for meeting the needs of students Address behavior by providing behavioral interventions and problem solving strategies Intervene in crisis situations Conduct MDRs; facilitate behavior planning and review meetings, and wraparound meetings Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary staff, parents, and administrators Provide training and support to all appropriate staff members Document and collect data for behavior interventions and services provided Determine appropriate behavior treatment plans through documented evaluations and consultations Participate in student success team meetings Implement trauma-informed/resiliency based strategies & interventions Implement building wide PBIS Maintain compliance with special education timelines, required paperwork and documentation Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom based activities and behavior strategies/interventions Meet the needs of all students effectively by working in partnership with other disciplines Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and school policy Maintain up-to-date knowledge of research, theories, and practices associated with therapy in the school-based setting Maintain a philosophy in accordance with the Special Education Department and the GPPSS PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout school and classroom. Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at a time. Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties. Occasional bending, kneeling, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs. Prolonged periods sitting and working on the computer to complete necessary paperwork. Note:

Compensation:

We offer a competitive salary based upon your experience and/or steps earned in previous districts. Steps are according to the GPEA CBA.
