Assist in the nursing care and preparation of G.I. Lab/Endoscopy Center patients. Function as a member of the procedure team in issuing supplies and instruments to Endoscopists. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include; Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups. Responsibilities

EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES - Work with staff team to gather necessary supplies, equipment and instruments PREPARATION - Assist in preparing patient and procedure area; prepare and maintain endoscopy video cart, light source, supplies, endoscope, instillation pump and lab containers SPECIMENS - Assist in maintenance and care of specimens; prepare specimens for laboratory analysis ADMISSIONS - Assist with patient admission to Admitting and Recovery PATIENT TRANSPORT - Transport patients to and from requesting areas; ensure adherence to all safety measures EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES - Decontaminate all equipment, instruments, and supplies DOCUMENTATION - Document all patient care activity, provider and instrument utilization in electronic medical record or hard copy as appropriate; complete all billing sheets STOCK - Perform restocking duties as necessary SPECIAL PROCEDURES - Function as a service coordinator with RN for special procedure preparations DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may 'not seem right' PATIENT CENTERED MED - Adhere to and promote the core expectations of the Patient Centered Medical Home or Patient Centered Specialty Practice as applicable Qualifications

Education: Essential: High School or GED Equivalent Nonessential: Program Graduate Nonessential: Program Graduate Associate Degree Education specialization: Nonessential: Surgical Technician Nonessential: Medical Assistant Program Nonessential: Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates Program Experience: Essential: 1 year directly related experience Nonessential: No preferred experience Credentials: Essential: CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days Physical Conditions: Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
