Geospatial Database Engineer

CGH has an exciting opportunity for a Geospatial Database Engineer to join the CGH Team. Purpose: We are seeking a highly skilled PostgreSQL and PostGIS Database Engineer to join our team. This role combines database development, administration, and operational responsibilities to support critical systems in the cloud and on-premise environments. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with geospatial data, PostGIS integration, and the automation of database operations. Responsibilities: Design, implement, and maintain PostgreSQL and PostGIS databases supporting spatial and non-spatial workloads. Administer databases, including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, backups, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions. Develop, manage, and optimize database schemas, geospatial queries, spatial indexing, and GIS data models. Create, test, and deploy stored procedures, triggers, and functions for applications leveraging geospatial datasets. Aggregate, transform, and analyze large-scale geospatial data from various sources. Monitor and resolve database performance issues, focusing on both relational and spatial query optimization. Automate system operations with shell scripts, SQL scripts, and infrastructure-as-code tools. Ensure database security, auditing, and compliance across all environments. Document operational standards, geospatial procedures, and best practices. Qualifications: Number of Years Experience Required: 3-5+ years of professional experience with PostgreSQL, including 2+ years of PostGIS in production. Demonstrated record of supporting enterprise-scale geospatial data workflows. Minimum Education and Certifications Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, GIS, Information Systems, or equivalent experience. Technical Skills Required: Significant hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and PostGIS administration and development. Strong background in geospatial data management, including spatial data formats, projections, indexing, and advanced GIS processing. Ability to develop and optimize complex spatial queries, leveraging PostGIS functions and extensions. Solid understanding of Linux/Unix operating systems and strong scripting skills in Bash, Shell, or similar. Demonstrated experience in cloud and on-premise environments. Good SQL performance tuning experience, including optimizer insights for spatial datasets. Computer Skills: Microsoft Office 365 Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: U.S. Citizen or person with valid U.S. Work Visa who has lived in the U.S. for 3 or more years. Demonstrated ability to communicate and interface with the customer and interpret requirements. Ability to communicate requirements. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of both collaborative and independent work. Effectively manages a high volume of work while maintaining focus on critical tasks. While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to sit, stand, talk, hear and use a computer/keyboard/mouse for several hours on a daily basis. May require occasional light lifting of up to 10 pounds. The hiring range for this position is $60K - $65K/year based on relevant experience and position requirements as determined by the customer parameters. Candidates selected will be subject to a Government background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements.
