The Assistant Program Safety Manager II works with contractors, LAWA inspection, the Project Management Team, and others to ensure assigned projects implement effective safety programs and meet contract requirements regarding safety and security. Responsibilities
Work with Contractor Safety Team, LAWA Inspection Team, Project Management Team, and others to ensure projects implement effective safety programs. Walk all assigned projects regularly (potentially multiple times daily). Engage with the LAWA ADG Safety platform to perform Task Hazard Analysis audits and report safety observations. Meet with LAWA Inspectors and other stakeholders regarding safety concerns and follow-up actions by the contractor. Review written Safety Plans and verify safety performance and compliance in the field to evaluate effectiveness of implementation. Assist the Project/Construction Manager to verify contractors comply with documentation requirements (weekly toolbox meetings, new employee orientation, daily safety inspection reports, incident reports, training records, and JHAs). Research pertinent requirements not readily available. Attend Project Progress and Project Safety Committee meetings to monitor ongoing safety efforts. Attend Construction Safety Advisory Council Meetings and participate in the Monthly All-Hands Safety Meeting, including updates on safety regulations and training. Coordinate with management to promote the ADG Safety Program and raise positive publicity. Collaborate with stakeholders to advance ADG's safety goals. Multi-task and prioritize competing responsibilities. Qualifications
Education/Training/Professional Experience: High school diploma (or equivalent). Five years of vertical, tunnel, or heavy civil construction experience. BCSP certification (Construction Health and Safety Technician or better) or active equivalent at minimum. Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and communicate effectively (verbal and written; bilingual a plus). Solid people skills with professional demeanor and ability to convey safety policies and practices. Analytical reasoning and problem-solving capabilities; ability to write reports based on safety observations with photos. Ability to produce and distribute safety documentation accurately and timely. Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and large-scale construction management software (e.g., Prolog, VEO, Procore, PMWeb). Ability to create PowerPoint presentations. May be required to conduct Cal/OSHA training and CPR/First Aid training (as applicable). Key Performance Indicators
Project walks with contractors, inspection, and other stakeholders per week. Quality of PSM Weekly Safety Reports, Observations, and submittal reviews. Engagement with staff (inspection and PM/CM staff) and coaching/training. Continuing education/training completed and timeliness in reviewing PSM reports. Engagement with project team and effective communication; escalation of safety concerns as necessary. Element-Specific Requirements
May assume other duties as required/needed. May work past regular shifts or during days off; may start shifts at any time of day or night. May be required to start a regular work week on any day of the week. Will be required to conduct Cal OSHA training for LAWA staff and others; Cal OSHA authorized instructor within 6 months of hire.
