Electrical Engineer
As an Electrical Engineer in the Magnet Division, you will be part of a team with the responsibility to design and develop advanced hardware and software systems. You will design and develop control systems based on PLC Logic and the NI LabView platform. You should have basic circuit theory knowledge and programming skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Circuit design and wire list generation include generating schematics. Knowledge of SCRs and IGBTs and how they operate including power electronics. The ability to program PLCs and NI LabVIEW programs. Working in harmony with the electrical technicians. Designing and implementing quench detection systems to protect superconducting magnets. Work with physicists to conduct experiments on new types of superconducting material at helium temperatures. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Requires a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering discipline or closely related field of study. Minimum three (3) years progressively responsible related work experience is required. Basic background in PLC and NI LabVIEW programming and well as a working knowledge of SCRs and IGBTs. Good troubleshooting skills and the ability to generate wire lists and schematics. Knowledge of the NEC and NFPA requirements. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Seven (7) years progressively responsible related work experience. Advanced programming skills such as Python or C++. Knowledge of high current power supplies and the ability to troubleshoot them. Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements: Ability to climb ladders to 6 feet. Ability to work around cryogenic liquids such helium and nitrogen. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. Knowledge of LOTO requirements.
