Cryptocurrency Cyber and Data Security Specialist role at Morgan Stanley. The Wealth Management (WM) Chief Data Office (CDO) sits within the WM Risk organization and aims to balance risk management with business enablement. WM CDO’s mission is to prevent unauthorized access to client data and assets, abide by privacy laws, effectively retain and protect information, and mitigate risks from inaccurate or incomplete WM data. The Application and Infrastructure Security Team ensures secure storage of PII and applies appropriate controls across technology assets handling sensitive data. As technology evolves and acquisitions are integrated, this team provides internal expertise to understand tradeoffs, establish control requirements, monitor and validate controls, and evaluate threat landscapes to calibrate security posture. Role Description
The Application and Infrastructure Security Team seeks a Vice President to build out and support risk management capabilities native to cryptocurrency. The role will stake out required controls across data security, cybersecurity, information management, and privacy. You will lead day-to-day risk management activities across the WM cryptocurrency offering, including architecture reviews, third-party due diligence, and providing subject matter expertise to relevant business stakeholders. You will also help build out cryptocurrency-native risk management and governance enhancements as the offering matures. Key Responsibilities
Serving as the daily and go-to contact on cybersecurity considerations for the cryptocurrency program Leading meetings with internal and external project stakeholders Articulating relevant risks and considerations to senior WM business leadership Providing detailed guidance to technology and business teams to ensure risks are effectively minimized Developing a risk taxonomy to support cryptocurrency and additional digital asset development efforts for WM Liaising with Morgan Stanley’s central cybersecurity organization to interpret and translate control requirements for WM business owners Qualifications
7-12 years of relevant risk management experience Experience with enterprise security controls and an in-depth knowledge of application and network security concepts Experience automating tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and data analysis tools (e.g., Dataiku, SQL) Familiarity with cryptocurrency and distributed ledger technology and a demonstrable understanding of cybersecurity concerns Proven track record of leading technology teams and projects Ability to partner with external stakeholders and drive projects to completion in a large matrixed organization Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels within the organization Exceptional critical thinking, problem-solving, and research skills Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of the financial services industry; preferably in wealth management, finance, operations, or technology Deep knowledge of cryptocurrency wallet security considerations, including architecture, key management, and distributed signing capabilities Awareness of industry trends for both public and private blockchain networks What You Can Expect From Morgan Stanley
