$95,000.00/yr - $97,500.00/yr Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) Senior Gift Officer, Head of Planned Giving Full-time, exempt Onsite The Job To play an integral role in executing the museums vision in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects and donors with a particular focus on planned giving and complex gift strategies. This position leads the administration and strategic direction of the museums planned giving initiatives. Collaborates with and provides technical expertise in all aspects of planned giving, including tax and charitable components, to colleagues and prospective and current donors as well as their advisors. Acts as a key ambassador through personal contact with donors and prospects. In this role, you will 1. Meet fundraising goals for unrestricted, restricted, and planned gifts from individuals. Manage portfolio of 75-100+ major and planned gift prospects to secure unrestricted annual and special project and campaign gifts to meet identified institutional goals. Take timely and strategic steps in moving prospects through the cycle of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. This position is expected to raise between $500,000 - 1,000,000 annually in unrestricted, restricted, and/or planned gifts, meet metrics for donor contacts and proposals, and meet additional goals to support capital campaign as identified. Create a plan for each donor that will serve as a foundational communication and fundraising strategy, with a focus on one-on-one donor meetings to establish and strengthen donor relationships for long term support. Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive planned giving program that aligns with the museums fundraising goals. Serve as a philanthropic planning advisor to planned gift prospects and their advisors to produce current and deferred planned gifts to benefit Mia. Recommend key messages, collateral materials, and targeted communication strategies to produce in partnership with Advancement and Audience divisions. Collaborate with gift officers and internal partners to support complex planned giving conversations across the museum. Partner, coach, equip and encourage colleagues in the pursuit of planned giving opportunities while assisting in the design and implementation of gifts and individualized donor strategies. Manage planned giving administration in partnership with Finance Division, including, but not limited to: gift documentation and agreements, estate administration, CGA registrations, stewardship of the museums endowment funds, and charitable trusts. Organize and conduct internal training on charitable planning, gift planning vehicles, and tax-wise philanthropic strategies. Maintain technical expertise while staying current on tax and other legislative changes that impact donors and planned giving. Produce or assist with draft documents, calculations, proposals, endowment agreements and other necessary materials as needed by prospects, donors and advisors. Maintain an active, current body of knowledge of Mia and its mission, programs, activities, institutional needs, and fundraising priorities, as well as the advancement field and planned giving trends and vehicles. Participate in development of creative and customized benefits, events, and communications, and recommend and manage communication. 2. Communicate and report on activities to department team and other key staff. Manage prioritization for major individual prospect identification, research, benefit delivery, and cultivation/stewardship opportunities. Provide timely and accurate progress reports. Consistently maintain contact reports and donor files. Coordinate appropriate financial requirements and needs with accounting department. 3. Participate, as needed, in department-wide and museum-wide work teams on key issues. 4. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned. Requirements: Required: Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience. Minimum of seven years experience in individual fundraising, legal, financial, or related field, with direct experience in cultivation and solicitation of individual donors, preferably in a museum environment. Demonstrated success in closing six-figure annual, endowment, and planned gifts. Expertise in planned giving and/or tax law. Superior oral and written communication skills and exceptional people skills. Works comfortably and professionally with donors, foundations, Trustees, individual prospects, and volunteers. Able to serve as a representative of Mia to the public and represent the museums mission with enthusiasm and professionalism.
