Job Summary
The Weekend Medical Laboratory Supervisor plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Chemistry Laboratory. Under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, this position utilizes extensive knowledge of Clinical Chemistry, Immunology, and Special Chemistry to lead the team effectively. The Medical Laboratory Supervisor will also serve as a key resource for technologists in the department.
Essential Responsibilities:
Adhere to all Laboratory and Hospital safety policies.
Safely operate department equipment, following procedures meticulously.
Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot instrument issues while notifying appropriate personnel of problems.
Consistently follow department QC protocols and document troubleshooting processes for QC failures.
Maintain technical competency and seek clarification when needed.
Effectively use all necessary Laboratory Information System (LIS) functions.
Assist the Supervisor in managing inventory of reagents and supplies for testing.
Exceed performance expectations in customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff development.
Maintain accurate records for all specimens on the pending log and communicate next steps to subsequent shifts.
Prioritize tasks to adapt to fluctuations in workflow.
Collaborate with the laboratory supervisor to write and update departmental procedures and protocols.
Display effective planning skills and follow through on projects.
Identify and analyze problems, alerting supervisory staff of issues needing attention.
Manage inventory for supplies, and submit purchase requests as necessary.
Engage in Quality Control programs and evaluations.
Undertake additional tasks as assigned.
Comply with all policies and standards.
Qualifications:
Associate Degree in Medical Technology or in physical, chemical, or biological sciences required.
2-4 years of clinical laboratory experience required.
2-4 years of hospital experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Understanding of laboratory and quality control procedures.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain organized records.
Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to promote teamwork.
Demonstrated proficiency in laboratory techniques and adherence to safety practices.
Ability to multitask in a busy, dynamic environment.
Basic knowledge and experience with laboratory tools and equipment.
Licenses and Certifications:
MLT - Medical Technician - ASCP required or
Certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)-AMT required or
MLT - Medical Technician - Certified from ASCP AAB or equivalent required.
