Summary:
The Director of Nursing (DON) contributes to the development, management, and strategy growth of the facility focusing on the provision of high-quality, cost effective care for the patient/resident with a disability or chronic illness. The DON is responsible for evaluating the quality and appropriateness of care, the effectiveness and efficiency of systems within the setting, and instituting practice changes based on evaluation, and supporting interdisciplinary performance efforts within the continuum of care. Promotes institutional and professional nursing values, goals, and objectives among nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members. Directs the implementation, and ensures compliance with, standards of nursing practice. Responsible for providing supportive care to patients/residents by assessing, and evaluating the care provided by all nursing clinical staff. The DON allocates available resources for the efficient delivery of care and participates in executive decision making related to departmental functions for the nursing services provided 24 hours/day. The DON is a strategic partner in driving the financial performance in collaboration with the entire interdisciplinary leadership team.
Responsibilities
EDUCATION
Current New York State Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse required
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
Master's Degree preferred
BLS certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire
EXPERIENCE
Background to include nursing clinical experience
Four (4) years leadership/management experience in a healthcare setting
Four (4) years previous Long Term Care experience required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Strong leadership skills
Strong clinical quality management skills
Strong financial ability
Knowledge of rules and regulations governing Long Term Care and the NYS Nurse Practice Act
Ability to communicate effectively
Demonstrates ability to prioritize needs and solve problems expeditiously
Ability to coordinate data from multiple sources
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Computer literate
Customer focus
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Office environment; may require long, irregular work hours
Travel between CH facilities may be required
