Car Driver
General Definition of Work Performs semi-skilled work transporting students to and from school and events, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Director of Operations.
Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Essential Functions
Transports students safely to and from home. Conducts safe and orderly loading and unloading of students at specified destination. Maintains student discipline in the car and enforce rules governing student conduct by reporting undisciplined students to the proper authority. Maintains clean, safe surroundings, and ensures appropriate behavior. Performs routine operator care to include: checking equipment and reporting problems (pre-trip inspection), and presenting car for regularly scheduled maintenance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of operating a car/van. General knowledge of the cities/streets of the Town of West Point. Skill in the safe operation of a car/van. Ability to detect malfunctioning equipment. Ability to assist children using patience and understanding Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school staff, students, coaches, and parents/community members.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid commercial driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Physical Requirements This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to vibration and occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
