Provide consultative support and education for Duke Cancer Network (DCN) affiliated programs to maintain clinically relevant oncology nursing standards; develop and facilitate professional education across cancer disciplines; support opportunities for scholarly inquiry and highlight Duke Faculty and programs. Planning and Implementation of delivery of quality patient care and educational programming: develop, monitor and oversee implementation of strategic clinical practice and educational plans for DCN activities at affiliated sites; lead CME program development;?? with directors to enhance educational efforts for other disciplines. Develop and maintain clinical and educational policies and procedures; collaborate with resources (providers, pharmacy, nursing, lab, etc.); develop new practices as necessary. Assist with facility design and assessment of new technology and equipment acquisition, including vendor selection. Lead efforts to develop PI/QI initiatives at DCN and affiliate sites; oversee implementation of evidenced based practice to improve patient care and programmatic function. Ensure completion of written clinical and educational plans and reports for each affiliate site; provide mentorship to affiliate staff in evidence based practice, nursing education and research; ensure ongoing educational needs assessments are completed. Performance Monitoring and Reporting
Deliver quality care at Duke affiliated oncology programs; coordinate access to Duke oncology and subspecialty experts. Assist with accreditation preparedness (e.g., site TJC, CoC, NAPBC); develop quality oversight reporting structures for all sites. Oversee and lead efforts to implement practice change; include peer review, case reviews, tumor boards; participate in sentinel event investigation and reporting. Identify data submission needs for subspecialty registries; support revenue capture, compliant documentation and coding; lead/Pilot Performance Improvement/Quality Improvement initiatives across programs; report educational outcomes for DCN programs. Program and Strategic Development
Lead pre-affiliation baseline assessments for clinical practice and education; participate in pre-affiliation reports and startup work plans for new affiliations. Assist in market assessments, feasibility studies, and financial analyses for new affiliates; contribute to DCN strategic planning and identify opportunities for new affiliations. Coordinate educational productivity and quality reporting; drive quality metrics and strategic objectives across affiliate programs; coordinate education about evidence based practice. Develop and negotiate contracts for educational and grant activities; manage budgets and communicate resource needs; lead grant development outside funding sources. Operations Management
Lead clinical and educational meetings with affiliate sites; develop content and reports for affiliated program steering committees. Utilize budgeted resources to plan, implement and evaluate service improvements; manage DCN revenue and expense budgets for Clinical practice and CME events. Oversee budgets for educational and grant activity; communicate financial information to affiliated programs. Human Resource Management
Assist in recruitment, hiring and orientation for DCN staff; supervise Associate Directors and other DCN employees as assigned. Manage performance of individuals and teams; develop and revise position descriptions; provide HR consultative support to affiliate sites (job design, sourcing, interviewing). Oversee non-Duke staff in nursing, pharmacy or other positions at affiliate locations; foster a positive team environment; orient and validate competency of staff at affiliates. Professional Educational Programs
Oversee development of professional educational programs aligned with DCN, DCI goals and affiliate requirements; coordinate annual CME planning. Ensure ongoing needs assessments and annual educational plans; collaborate with DCN leadership on site needs assessments; plan local/regional symposia; ensure DCN participation in Duke CME/CNE/CEU programming; coordinate access to development opportunities for affiliated personnel. Ensure education and grant-related outcomes are completed and communicated for each program. Maintain Relationships
Maintain open communication with leaders across Affiliations and Network Services, Duke School of Medicine, Hospital and Health System Clinical Practice and Education, DUH CSU, DHRH and Medical Staff Leadership, Continuing Medical Education, Nursing, and Community Hospital Leadership. Lead service initiatives to meet internal and external customer needs; improve patient access and throughput; strive to meet customer satisfaction; align with Network Services culture. Education and Experience
Education: Bachelors degree required; Masters degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration or Health Education strongly preferred. Experience: Minimum five years of healthcare management or clinical experience; oncology leadership experience strongly preferred; experience in program management across oncology service lines and CME planning preferred; at least three years of progressive supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to deliver educational content; teaching and mentoring abilities; knowledge of health literacy and adult learning principles; ability to assess educational needs and evaluate outcomes. Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to manage multiple projects; facilitation and consensus-building skills; familiarity with academic environments; understanding of research processes is preferred. Computer proficiency; ability to work with diverse individuals in multiple settings. Physical Requirements
Travel to affiliated sites required (typically within 4 four-hour drives; some flights; possible regional, national, and international travel). Exposure to hazards; ability to perform essential job functions with required physical and mental abilities; occasional evening/weekend commitments.
