Job Title: Controls Engineer
Job Description
The Controls Engineer is responsible for ensuring that plants produce the highest quality products in the most efficient manner by implementing, maintaining, and supporting the ICS infrastructure. This includes maintaining and ensuring all equipment comprising the Industrial Control System meet current safety and cyber security standards, performing network switch configuration, VLAN schema, IP address assignment, PLC and HMI troubleshooting, installing PLC and IO cards, and addressing DCS hardware. The role also involves supporting capital projects with networking, automation, and process control technical expertise, alongside supporting ICS automation and process control systems of manufacturing plants in North America.
Responsibilities
Ensure all equipment comprising the Industrial Control System are properly maintained and functioning to current safety and cyber security standards.
Perform PLC, DCS, and HMI programming and troubleshooting.
Install PLC and IO cards and address DCS hardware.
Support capital projects by providing networking, automation, and process control technical expertise.
Support network and ICS automation & process control systems of manufacturing plants in North America.
Assist in data collection, I4.0 migrations, and cyber security initiatives.
Maintain machine safety standards and lead machine risk assessments.
Ensure machine controls for safety systems meet Sistema Level D category.
Review new machine documentation to ensure equipment exceeds safety standards.
Provide subject matter expertise while assisting third-party controls systems support across domestic sites.
Develop and maintain 5-year ICS automation & process control equipment plans for remediating obsolescence in North American plants.
Essential Skills
PLC programming and troubleshooting.
Proficiency in Rockwell and Siemens PLCs.
Experience with HMI and packaging equipment.
Networking skills, specifically Siemens PCS7.
Proficiency in industrial control system networks, including Profinet, AS-I, and IO Link.
Expertise in safety controls for machine safety.
Knowledge of networking, switches, VLANs, and IP addressing.
Understanding of the National Electric Code, NFPA70E, and NFPA79.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Associates or Bachelors degree.
Experience in consumer products controls work and plant support.
Familiarity with Siemens PCS7, WinCC, SLC, PLC5, FactoryTalk View, and AutoCAD.
Work Environment
This position offers a remote work environment with 60-70% travel to manufacturing plants in locations such as Cincinnati, Deer Park TX, Santa Fe CA, and Mississauga Canada. The role requires travel typically for 3-5 days, with the ability to return home most weekends. Preference is given to candidates based in a central location close to a major airport. The average workweek is about 50 hours, and a company credit card is provided for travel expenses, with no per diem.

The pay range for this position is $115000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
