The Unit Coordinator provides leadership and clinical liaison with staff, physicians and management, ensuring continuity of leadership and support for the unit on a day-to-day basis. The role models, mentors and coaches staff to maintain unit standards and foster a team environment. The unit coordinator helps attract, develop, maintain, and retain qualified staff and supports staffing, payroll and budget processes as needed. Responsibilities
Function as leader and clinical liaison with staff, physicians and management, providing day-to-day continuity of leadership. Act as role model, mentor, coach and resource person to staff to ensure unit standards and a team environment. Assist managers in attracting, developing, maintaining, and retaining qualified staff; participate in hiring, orientation, monitoring and evaluating performance, problem solving, employee counseling, staffing, payroll and budget. Serve as a contact for internal and external customers; maintain a safe environment of care and meet quality standards; implement and monitor processes; provide leadership succession. Provide direct patient care competencies as applicable to the population served. Supervise personnel accountable to the nurse manager; provide ongoing feedback, development plans, mentoring, and performance evaluations. Coordinate day-to-day unit operations, patient placements, and staff assignments; manage staffing levels and scheduling; approve/deny PTO as needed. Facilitate attendance at organizational committees and meetings; support shared governance; recruit and retain personnel as needed. Provide clinical expertise, guidance and resource support to staff; ensure knowledge of guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards. Participate in recruitment, selection and retention; assist with interview processes; foster an environment for innovation and continuous improvement. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Nursing and 2 years of clinical experience required. Master's degree in Nursing preferred. Previous management/leadership experience preferred; formal or informal leadership experience preferred. Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan. Advanced Nursing Specific Certification preferred. Department-specific requirements as necessary (e.g., PALS, BLS, ACLS). Employment Details
