Your role at Baxter Baxter is on a mission to modernize our global manufacturing locations through the implementation of advanced automation and Industry 4.0 tools. These tools are designed to improve our operations' productivity goals and enable manufacturing sites to be smarter and leaner. We are seeking a Senior Engineer to manage projects and oversee the implementation of advanced machine vision solutions for pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have a background in vision system design, machine/computer vision software, cloud connectivity and services, industrial automation controllers (e.g., PLCs) and programming. Candidates should have experience working in a regulated manufacturing setting and on cross-functional teams. The role requires a proven track record of being highly independent and the ability to work through technical blocks with minimal guidance. Your team Advanced Engineering & Innovation (AE&I) is a collaborative team tackling sophisticated challenges in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. What you'll be doing As a product owner, partner with a cross-functional team of technical experts to develop and implement AI-based computer vision systems for complex industrial automation use cases. Support cross-functional teams at a Global scale to deploy advanced technologies at manufacturing facilities. Effectively manage project deliverables and commitments. Identify equipment/automation issues and implement improvements to improve system reliability, performance, and user experience. Support training workshops with regional and site manufacturing engineers on AE&I technologies to help participants understand and sustain the technology. Generate technical documentation in support of project deliverables and requirements (e.g., protocols, reports, URS, design specifications, validation test cases, manuals, work instructions). Learn to use the command line in Linux to provision hardware, interact with tools (e.g., Docker, AWS CLI), collect diagnostics, and perform troubleshooting. Work with CoaXPress, GigE, and USB3 Vision cameras, lenses, optics, and lighting to optimize image quality, including cleanroom environments. Provision AI Vision system PCs with required software, configure for use, and troubleshoot hardware/software issues during commissioning and validation. Collaborate with Global and Local Quality teams to validate vision systems for production use. Partner with quality assurance, regulatory affairs, automation engineers, and production teams to enhance vision system performance, manufacturing efficiency, and compliance. Serve as a subject matter expert on industrial computer vision technologies including cameras/sensors, lighting, optics, and PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley and Siemens). Stay up to date with emerging technologies in AI-based defect detection, hyperspectral imaging, and 3D vision for pharmaceutical and medical devices. Support up to 30% travel to global manufacturing locations. What you'll bring 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment. Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or related technical field. Advanced computer literacy and a passion for learning software, coding, and IT skills. Business travel to Baxter's global network for project scoping, installation, commissioning, and training. Experience with computer vision hardware (industrial cameras, lenses, optics, and lighting). Experience engaging and managing outside contractors, vendors, and suppliers. Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills for software and hardware in machine vision applications. Expertise in industrial vision system hardware and industrial controllers. Experience integrating machine vision systems with external systems (e.g., SCADA & MES, cloud endpoints, PLCs). Familiarity with deep learning models for defect classification and anomaly detection. Experience provisioning hardware with a Linux OS and using a command line interface. Working knowledge of manufacturing and operations processes. Ability to organize and present technical information and project plans with minimal assistance. Ability to execute plans while managing risks and opportunities. Proficient English written and oral communication skills. Healthcare or other regulated industry experience in a manufacturing setting is strongly preferred. We understand compensation is important. The estimated base salary for this position is $88,000 - $121,000 annually. The range may be adjusted based on market data and other factors. Individual pay is based on location, skills, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
