Overview

The Information Technology (IT) Specialist is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of computer hardware, software, network systems, and related technologies used throughout the City of Sandpoint. This includes Windows-based workstations, servers, network infrastructure, mobile devices, phones, and other technology systems. Work is performed under the general supervision of the IT Manager, with latitude for independent judgment and initiative within established policies and procedures. This is a full-time non-exempt

role eligible for overtime with a hiring range of

Administers IT inventory, including procurement, tracking, and disposal of obsolete equipment. Provides hardware and software support, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, upgrades, and user assistance. Participates in the design, implementation, and maintenance of network infrastructure. Installs, configures, and maintains City servers, including storage, web, DNS, email, VPN, and databases. Supports and administers Active Directory, group policies, file shares, and print services. Monitors and troubleshoots LAN/WAN systems. Performs system backups and ensures recovery readiness. Installs patches, updates, and configuration changes to operating systems. Provides technical support to City staff, responding to service requests. Maintains and supports the Citys email archiving system. Provides recommendations on IT projects, enhancements, and budget planning. Assists with vendor coordination, including product research and cost-benefit analysis. Prepares and maintains documentation, user guides, and technical reports. Conducts training for staff on accessing and using City systems. Serves as backup to the IT Manager as needed. Attends committee meetings, City Council meetings, and other assigned functions. Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices. Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge

Operation, maintenance, and administration of computer, network, telecommunications, and security systems. Principles of systems analysis, design, and integration. Current system security methods and techniques. Microsoft Windows operating systems, servers, and related tools. Basic principles and practices of technology project management. State, federal, and local ordinances, laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to public sector information technology and telecommunications management. Basic project management practices. Public involvement, communication, presentation techniques, and negotiation methods. Public sector budgeting processes. Customer service and effective communication practices. Skill and Ability

Support the overall operations of the Citys computer and electronic information system. Analyze and resolve technical problems in a timely manner. Plan and implement system upgrades and enhancements. Make sound decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations, and established policies. Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation. Provide support to all system users, answering questions and providing information, as needed. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, elected officials, contractors, other agencies, and the public. Present technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with the public, City Council and other City employees. Effectively manage and organize a high-volume workload with multiple priorities to meet deadlines. Research, analyze, and interpret data and make recommendations. Work independently, with minimal supervision, and make appropriate decisions in the absence of a supervisor. Work well under pressure and maintain a calm and professional demeanor, under stressful or adversarial conditions. Demonstrate patience, integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks. Physical Demands

Sufficient speech, hearing, and vision to communicate effectively and review documents. Manual dexterity to operate computers and office equipment. Mobility to work in an office setting and travel to various sites as required. Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and lift or move up to 25 pounds. Working Conditions

Work is performed in a normal office environment with little exposure to outdoor temperatures, dirt and dust. The incumbents typical working conditions are moderately quiet with little exposure to excessive noise. Duties may require some evening, weekend, holiday and/or on-call work. Education and Experience

Associates degree from an accredited college or advanced technical training in computer science or a closely related field; and Two (2) years experience in an IT related role; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work of an IT Specialist may also be qualifying Other Qualifications

Valid, current Idaho drivers license Ability to pass background check and pass CJIS compliance testing. Desired Qualifications
