Job Title: Water Resources Engineer

Barr is seeking a water resources engineer to join our growing Salt Lake City team. In this hybrid role, you will work on projects with a diverse team of engineers and scientists, completing water-resources-related technical assignments. Project work may include development of plans and specifications, site drainage and stormwater control plans, and erosion protection plans; cost estimating; fieldwork such as construction observation; hydraulic design and analysis of conveyance systems; design and analysis of energy dissipation structures; report writing; surveying; collecting hydrologic or water quality measurements; and materials testing. Key responsibilities: Technical knowledge: develop plans and specifications for a variety of projects and provide design and analysis support. Reporting: work with clients, permitting agencies, and public officials. Project and task management: assist in planning, coordinating, and executing projects. Help ensure project milestones are met and provide regular updates to project managers and clients. Business development: proposal development and business development support. About the opportunity: Compensation: anticipated range of $95,000-110,000 annually. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. Hybrid: a hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Salt Lake City, Utah, office. Work environment: ability to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites with limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients. Required core competencies: Education: Bachelor's degree in civil/environmental engineering with emphasis on water resources. Experience: 6+ years of relevant experience. Familiarity with one or more of the following: civil site design, plans and specifications development, earthwork and grading plans, cost estimating, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, hydraulic structure design, and/or open channel and pipe flow modeling. Licenses/certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within one year. Software: working knowledge of GIS and CADD software. Driver's license: possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future. Helpful additional experience (not required): Master's degree or PhD in civil or environmental engineering with a focus on hydrology, hydraulics, and/or water quality.
