Job Description Job Title: Progressive Care Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 4 Years License: Current RN Licensure Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS (required or obtained within 6 months of hire)

Must-Have: - Ability to manage common IV medications including Heparin, Diltiazem, Dobutamine, Milrinone, Amiodarone, and Dopamine. - Experience with advanced medical equipment including arterial lines, invasive lines, and chest tubes. - Basic cardiac telemetry and EKG interpretation skills. - Pediatric experience preferred. - Experience in post-heart catheterization preferred.

Description: The Progressive Care Nurse will provide care to hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients. Care will include physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural support. Anticipated patient populations include pediatrics, pre and post PCI care, pacemaker, revascularization, carotid endarterectomy, thoracotomy, CHF, COPD, DKA, renal failure, DVT, PE, sepsis, and various surgical services. Staff will expect patients to be in relative stability while recognizing that some diagnoses may require skilled assessment and intervention tools for potential deteriorating conditions. The nurse is required to operate advanced medical equipment and care for patients with central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, arterial lines, multiple IVs, and patients requiring short-term ventilation support. The nurse provides direct care for patients from admission to discharge, including discharge planning. Collaboration with other professional disciplines is essential to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Nurses must effectively interact with patients and significant others while maintaining professional nursing standards. The ability to assess and implement established policies and procedures with minimal supervision is required. The nurse will act as a clinical leader and assist in precepting staff. The nurse also complements the general medical and surgical units when staffing actions are required.
