Senior Engineer - Materials
Location: Denver, PA, US, 17517 Workplace Environment: Hybrid Company: UGI Utilities, Inc Job Summary: Ensure compliance with federal and state pipeline safety regulations by reviewing procedures, plans, and processes and their implementation. Identify local best practices to be shared, along with identifying deficiencies that need to be corrected. Continuously update and streamline the UGI Gas Operation Manual (GOM), Emergency Plan (EP), Design Manual (DM), Welding Manual (WM) and Public Awareness Plan as a result of regulatory changes, feedback from field personnel, or changes in internal processes. Communicate these updates to internal and external stakeholders, and facilitate the management of change responsibilities associated with these updates. Communicate with state pipeline safety inspectors and work to resolve non-compliance issues. Duties and Responsibilities: Lead the standardization of materials and tools, including review and comparison of specifications, performance/functionality testing, and implementation. Have ultimate ownership of the inter-company materials and tool committees for review of current topics regarding materials and tools. Review, audit, and record material failure reports submitted by installation crews and submit to the appropriate external agency as required by governing bodies (PHMSA, AGA PPDC and PA PUC). Evaluate returned failures for quality defects or possible recurrence, which may include internal or laboratory analysis. Make replacement or procedural change recommendations based on results of failure analysis. Record and track progress of all evaluations, communicating results as necessary. Assist the Purchasing Dept. in the bid process through the creation of material specifications and lead the efforts to monitor/assure supplier quality through Supplier Quality Audits from GTI Energy and occasional site visits. Provide alternate supplier options through specification evaluation and performance testing. Provide supporting diagrams, schematics and lists for inclusion into UGI's Gas Operations Manual, Engineering Design Manual, Welding Manual, Emergency Plan and Construction Standards. Maintain and monitor the materials specification catalog and virtual valve catalog. This includes monitoring and evaluating requests for new tools and materials and processing requests through the new Service Now application. Perform miscellaneous duties as requested. This includes internal and external training sessions, company sponsored safety and vendor events, applicable committees/conferences, traveling to supplier or manufacturer sponsored locations, committee gatherings, and construction field visits. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Familiarity with national and international engineering standards organizations (ISO, ASME, ANSI, ASTM, DIN) for applicability to materials used in Natural Gas Transmission and Distribution systems. Ability to apply these standards to material testing procedures. Proficiency with basic and powered hand tools, as well as knowledge of plastic and steel piping assemblies/distribution systems. Knowledge of testing equipment and machinery used in the construction industry. Superior computer skills (Windows) with MS professional programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and 2D drafting software such as AutoCad is required. Knowledge of MS SharePoint and SAP is desired. Ability to track, perform and document failure analysis testing with individuals from various backgrounds present. Strong interpersonal relationship acumen. Ability to communicate effectively and accurately to individuals from various backgrounds, in person and electronically.
