Ø

Will focus on steam methane reformers, reformer inlet and outlet systems, process gas boiler, and flue gas convection section coils.

Ø

Collaborates with the Mechanical Integrity team, Reliability Engineers, plant personnel and the capital projects team to support fired equipment analysis, repairs, and upgrades.

Ø

Provide engineering support for furnaces and associated equipment.

Ø

Works closely with the Mechanical Integrity team to assess inspection findings, develop repair plans, and identify root causes to eliminate repetitive failures.

Ø

Stay updated on applicable industry standards to ensure facilities are aligned with requirements.

Ø

Revise internal standards and policies as needed to ensure compliance.

Ø

Provide engineering support to facilities to close gaps in management systems.

Ø

This includes performing engineering calculations or interfacing with other technical resources to secure required documentation.

Ø

Complete calculations for reformer tube and pigtail creep, reformer tube and pigtail remaining life, refractory heat transfer, and maximum allowable temperature values.

Ø

Support furnace and associated equipment upgrades by managing small capital projects and/or providing technical expertise to Project Managers.

Ø

Assist as needed during Fired equipment MI inspections and corrective action execution.

Ø

Support turnaround activities as necessary which may occasionally go beyond normal business hours.

Ø

Identify bad actors and chronic damage mechanisms and develop strategies to resolve.

Ø

Lead or assist in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities for furnace failures.

Ø

This position requires a combination of office work and field work.

This position typically requires approximately 25% travel domestically.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

v

BS in Mechanical Engineering and 10+ years’ experience as a fired equipment technical resource in a PSM regulated facility.

v

Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written.

v

Must be a self-starter and able to work independently as well as to lead and participate on cross-functional teams.

v

Able to manage multiple priorities, drive issues to completion, and obtain results.

v

Understand the multi-disciplinary aspects of corrosion & materials selection.

v

Familiarity and experience with most engineering materials (metals & non-metals).

v

Experience with most common NDE and NDT technologies and applications.

v

Working knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel (Section I and Section VIII), Piping Codes (B31.3 and B31.12), API 560, API 530, API 941, API 510, API 570, API 579 etc.

v

Experience with welding best practices for high nickel alloys including wrought and cast materials.

v

Experience with brick and monolithic refractory systems.

v

Experience with piping and vessel external insulation systems.

v

Experience working within or supporting OSHA PSM-regulated facilities or processes, and knowledge of how mechanical integrity program elements apply to fired equipment.
