Full-Time About Gamaliel The Gamaliel Network is a dynamic multi-racial and multi-faith organization dedicated to building political power and creating systemic change. Established in 1968 in Chicago, our work emphasizes leadership development, deep relational organizing, and strategic justice campaigns. We focus on equipping individuals, particularly those from historically marginalized communities, to become leaders capable of understanding the mechanics of power and fostering multiracial, multifaith organizing. We advocate for transformative change in communities through collective action and accountability of decision-makers. Our extensive network covers more than 40 affiliates across diverse communities in the U.S., including urban, suburban, and rural areas, and our training programs are renowned for their excellence, reaching over 1,000 individuals each year. We are not limited to a single-issue agenda; instead, we thrive as a leadership development network that responds to various injustices in areas such as immigration, housing, voting rights, criminal justice, education, and climate justice. Our model seeks transformation rather than mere transactions, nurturing the next generation of powerful, faith-driven leaders. Our affiliates are found in cities such as Milwaukee, Detroit, Chattanooga, and Saint Louis, as well as in rural Iowa. We maintain a coalition that transcends race, class, religion, and ideology. Our history of achievements includes successful campaigns like the Transportation Equity (TEN) Campaign and the Ban the Box initiative, which have made significant impacts in communities across the nation. Currently, Gamaliel is at a pivotal moment of growth and evolution. Following the impactful leadership of Ana Garcia-Ashley, the first woman of color to lead our national organizing network, we seek a new Executive Director to guide us through our next chapter of commitment to racial and gender equity, multifaith collaboration, and empowering those most affected by injustices. About the Executive Director Position As the Executive Director (ED), you will be the strategic leader responsible for securing vital resources, guiding the organization's national vision, and ensuring operational success at all levels. You will play a crucial role in developing a vibrant national team and enhancing connections across our affiliate network. The ED will report directly to the Board of Directors and collaborate closely with national and affiliate leaders, staff, congregational members, and strategic partners. Your leadership will be vital in reshaping the civic and political landscape across key regions, particularly in communities historically overlooked or marginalized. You will strengthen the strategic capacity of the network, influence public narratives, elevate voices focused on justice, and ensure that grassroots campaigns lead to impactful policy changes for sustainable political transformation. Key Responsibilities Articulate and execute a visionary plan for Gamaliel committed to racial and economic justice. Lead the creation and execution of a comprehensive network-wide strategic plan incorporating extensive stakeholder engagement. Develop and maintain relationships with funders, securing financial support for long-term sustainability. Serve as a national spokesperson, effectively communicating Gamaliel's mission and values. Support and mentor a diverse national staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. Encourage leadership development and community organizing throughout the network. Advance Gamaliel's impact in political landscapes, aligning campaigns with advocacy efforts. Collaborate with the Board of Directors for effective governance, financial oversight, and strategic initiative alignment. Qualities, Competencies, and Experiences Organizer : Extensive experience in grassroots organizing, community leadership development, and achieving local or state policy shifts. Fundraiser : Proven track record in building lasting relationships with funders and consistently generating financial support. Leader and Visionary : Strong executive experience in movement-based organizations and the ability to make impactful, informed decisions. Faith-literate and Multifaith Fluent : Skilled in navigating diverse ideological and faith-based contexts. Deep Relational Capacity : Effective listener and leader who can synthesize diverse viewpoints while making decisive moves. Commitment : A strong advocate for racial equity and justice, capable of integrating these principles into both strategy and daily operations. Strategic Communicator : Excellent public speaking, narrative crafting, and media engagement skills. Bilingual capability is a plus. Experience with confronting systemic racism and oppression is essential, particularly with a focus on Black communities. Salary, Benefits, and Location This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary of $150,000, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package. This remote position requires some travel, with the national staff operating from various locations including St. Louis, MO, Chicago, IL, and Kansas City.
