Job DescriptionJob Description

Electroninks is quickly expanding and is seeking a full-time Machine Design Engineer to join our Department of Defense team! We are building the CircuitJet IV, an all-in-one machine that combines conductive inkjet printing, laser etching, solder dispensing, and pick-and-place assembly to enable rapid, on-demand PCB fabrication. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, can build strong relationships, is innovative and a team player.

We are seeking a hands-on engineer to help design and build this next- PCB manufacturing platform. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a novel, integrated manufacturing process that merges additive, subtractive, and assembly techniques in one machine.

If you love building 3D printers, robotic systems, or your own electronics prototypes—and you want to help reimagine how electronics are made—you’ll thrive in this role.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Design & Integration: Develop and integrate subsystems including laser etching, inkjet printing, solder dispensing, routing, and robotic pick-and-place.

Machine Control: Design and refine motion control, precision alignment, and vision systems.

Prototyping & Testing: Build and test prototype modules; iterate based on results and user feedback.

Software Collaboration: Work closely with software engineers to ensure seamless orchestration of all hardware components.

Documentation: Produce CAD designs, wiring diagrams, and engineering reports.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with materials scientists, software developers, and PCB engineers to bring the full machine concept to reality.

Qualifications:

Required:

BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience.

Experience with robotics, automation, or CNC/machine control systems.

Hands-on background in building or modifying machines like 3D printers, CNCs, laser cutters, or pick-and-place machines.

Strong CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar).

Comfort with both electronics (PCB design, sensors, wiring, actuators) and mechanical prototyping (3D printing, machining, laser cutting).

Experience with wet-chemistry methods and practice, wet-bench, solvents, chemical reactions, surface chemistry, and materials processing

:

Experience with inkjet printing, laser systems, or precision fluid dispensing.

Familiarity with machine vision and camera-based alignment.

Background in embedded systems (Arduino, STM32, Raspberry Pi, or similar).

Passion for rapid prototyping of electronics and mechanical devices.

Interest in novel manufacturing methods and experimentation.
