Closing Date: Open Until Filled Job Overview This position is responsible for receiving and prioritizing 911 and non-emergency telephone calls from the public, dispatching appropriate public safety officials, and maintaining open lines of communication with public safety during emergency situations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
NOTE: Employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville and meet the needs of the organization, which may result in the assignment of other duties and take precedence over duties described in this job description. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Receives incoming calls from the public, prioritizes the call according to severity, evaluates requests for service, and makes decisions on which public agency will best aid in the situation. Receives after-hours calls for utilities, street maintenance, and traffic signal malfunctions. Dispatches police officials to emergency and non-emergency calls for service and maintains communication with police or fire personnel during the situation; sends additional units to situations based on officer requests or updated information. Monitors the self-initiated activities of police officers and provides them with information on detained suspects. Maintains records of authorizations, warrants, and other information required for DCI/NCIC entries; correctly logs all activities. Uses the NCAWARE program to check for outstanding warrants and communicates results to officers in the field. Closes calls for service and identifies police units that have returned to normal patrols. Updates criminal history logs. Operates the CAD system; enters and extracts data from the RMS system. Receives and transmits messages via police department radio. Maintains a vehicle repossession log. May serve as a Communications Training Officer (CTO), responsible for training new hires as well as creating and maintaining the training program. May serve as an A/TAC, conducting audits and validations of the entries into DCI. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Education and/or Experience

Must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license, or

valid driver's license with ability to obtain a
North Carolina
driver's license within
60 days
of establishing a permanent residence in North Carolina. Possession of a valid NC Sheriff's Training and Standards Telecommunicators certification or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire date. Possession of a valid NC DCI certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date. Supplemental Information Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
General knowledge of current telecommunications practices and procedures. General knowledge of the practices and procedures used in the police and fire departments. General knowledge of city geography and street locations. General knowledge of the operation and use of computer aided dispatching equipment. General knowledge of various support manuals and resources such as call books, HAZMAT manual, tactical dispatch manual, and other standard operating procedural manuals. Ability to manage multiple situations at once under stressful conditions. Ability to operate a computer, telephones, radios, and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) consoles. Ability understand or comprehend calls made with different accents or broken English. Ability to read maps quickly, scan warrant files, and review recorded tapes. Ability to calmly communicate with people during emergency situations and document actions. Ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, other departments, supervisors, and the public. Job Related Physical Requirements
This position involves sedentary work requiring the exertion of 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
