Principal Member of Technical Staff

We are seeking a Principal Member of Technical Staff to join the Compute team and help define and build the future of Compute at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). At OCI, we are shaping the next generation of cloud computing for enterprises. The Compute Data Plane team builds and operates the core infrastructure services that enable Oracle's virtual machine offerings, disaster recovery, OS image management, health monitoring, orchestration, and cloud agents. These systems underpin the experiences of thousands of cloud customers and support massive scale with reliability, performance, and security. We are seeking a technically exceptional and highly innovative Principal Systems Engineer (IC4) to help architect, build, and scale OCI's Compute Data Plane. In this pivotal role, you will: Lead the design and development of complex, global-scale compute infrastructurepowering millions of VMs and supporting diverse workloads across thousands of hypervisors. Drive architectural decisions for disaster recovery automation, virtualization, agent-based management, and OS image provisioning. Set technical direction for new features and enhancements, influencing both short-term deliveries and long-term strategy. Mentor and guide engineering teams, setting the standard for technical excellence and best practices. Engage with cross-functional leaders (product, security, reliability, operations) to deliver end-to-end solutions that meet Oracle's standards for performance, security, and scalability. Represent our team in technical forums, advocate for best-in-class engineering, and continuously raise the bar for quality in our deliverables. Join us to shape the systems and products powering next-generation cloud innovation. This role will be hybrid, requiring three days per week onsite at our Seattle, WA location. Key Responsibilities

- Architect and build scalable, reliable, and secure compute and recovery solutions for OCI - Lead complex investigations, root cause analysis, and performance improvements at scale - Drive adoption of automation and monitoring for health, triage, remediation, and diagnostics - Define standards for coding, testing, deployment, and operational excellence within the team - Coach, mentor, and review work from less-senior engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and growth - Identify and evaluate new technologies and technical approaches for continuous product evolution - Present technical designs and roadmap initiatives to senior leadership and cross-org stakeholders Qualifications

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience - 8+ years of experience in designing, implementing, and operating high-scale distributed systems or infrastructure platforms - 4+ years of experience with OS kernel internals (e.g., memory management, device drivers, or kernel subsystems) - Experience in systems level performance evaluation using benchmarking tools - Deep expertise in cloud virtualization, compute orchestration, OS image management, high-availability, and disaster recovery - Proficient in systems-level programming languages such as C, C++, Rust, and/or Go - Demonstrated history of technical leadership, decision-making, and mentoring - Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills - Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with experience presenting complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences Disclaimer: Certain US customer or client-facing roles may be required to comply with applicable requirements, such as immunization and occupational health mandates. Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only US: Hiring Range in USD from: $96,800 to $223,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
