Overview

What the job is: As an Inventory Forester, youll be directly involved in collecting, processing, and maintaining forest inventory and related data for our timberlands. Youll perform field measurements, verify plot data, and work with aerial imagery to keep records accurate and up to date. This role is a mix of fieldwork and office work - gathering information in the woods, then ensuring its processed correctly in our data management systems. Youll also assist with acquisition due diligence, tactical harvest planning, and other projects that rely on precise forest resource data. Job Duties: Inventory & Planning Collect forest inventory data and perform field cruises, including check cruises for quality control. Prepare maps and materials for fieldwork, and coordinate with contractors as needed. Process, analyze, and upload inventory and quality control data to the management system. Contribute to 34 year tactical harvest planning and quarterly reporting. Identify opportunities to improve inventory processes and stay current on new technologies.

Data Management

Maintain accurate silviculture, harvest, and spatial data. Use aerial and drone imagery to support spatial data updates. Conduct field audits to verify timber typing consistency. Assist in training foresters on best practices for data entry and maintenance.

Acquisitions & Dispositions

Review and verify seller inventory data during acquisitions. Conduct field checks to validate and improve valuation data. Help transition acquisition data into company systems.

Required

Bachelors degree in Forestry or closely related field 5 + years of overall experience in timber cruising, GIS, or forest management, with a minimum of 3 years of related experience in inventory management Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word) Working knowledge of ArcGIS and experience with Microsoft SQL Working knowledge of statistics analysis and ability to process inventory data Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently

Preferred

Advanced degree (MS) in Forestry or Resource Management with emphasis on quantification Expert in forest mensuration skills Experience with aerial or drone imagery Supervisory experience

Work environment & travel

Combination of fieldwork in forested areas and office-based work Field conditions include uneven terrain and variable weather Travel requiring 68 overnight stays per month Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Intermittent need to work in field for up to 8 hours traversing several miles on foot
