Overview
Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) Technician
is a technical position responsible for ensuring the accurate operation of electric and water revenue metering systems. This position is responsible for installing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electric and water meters and related service equipment to support reliable measurements and billing accuracy. Primary duties include reading and interpreting metering system data, performing meter exchanges, conducting routine maintenance, and diagnosing issues related to metering accuracy and performance. The technician also handles routine meter reading, service disconnections, and reconnections as part of daily operations. This role supports internal departments, customers, and contractors with metering-related inquiries and provides recommendations for issue resolution. Education and Experience
A high school diploma or equivalent GED and completion of an approved Meter Technician apprenticeship program, including associated exam; OR a high school diploma or equivalent G.E.D. and three years of electrical experience; OR a high school diploma or equivalent G.E.D. and completion of a two-year electrical trade school program. OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Licenses and Certifications
Valid drivers license Desirable Qualifications
Completion of an approved MN DOL metering apprenticeship; Licensed Master, Journey, or Maintenance Electrician; Associates degree in Electronic Technology, or in an area related to the electrical trades; Experience in single/polyphase electric revenue metering; Experience with reading and interpreting meter data and equipment. Pay and Benefits
2025 Starting Rate of Pay. Apprentice - $44.00/hr, with advancement to $55.00/hr, after four years. Journey - $46.75/hr with advancement to $55.00/hr after 18 months.
